Trump says our troops were not on the frontline in Afghanistan

How dare this bufoon make such a claim?! My Royal Marine son still has nightmares about his time there. He saw one friend killed by gunfire and watched another lose a leg by an ied. I want Trump to face Veterans and explain how they got wounded if they were just in the background.
Why do so many Americans believe a word this excuse for a man says?

ViceVersa Fri 23-Jan-26 11:08:38

My son also served in both Afghanistan and Iraq - on the latter tour, he was actually embedded with American troops. They should put that orange buffoon in a room full of forces mums (both present and veterans) and they'd soon put him straight!

Private Bonespurs. None of his family, have ever served.

I don't think Charles should go unless there's a public retraction and apology from Trump.

Trump should talk!

As I asked, in another post, was this creature disappointed and heartbroken when his rich Daddy's money greased enough palms to get him exempted from the Vietnam War draft?

Just when you think he can’t sink any lower, he does 🤬🤬

I so agree, he’s surely about as low as he can go now?

Don't hold your breath!

You're wrong, nanna8. America won WW2 - Trump said so.

In fact, he was there, leading the troops.

The man is a dangerous buffoon.
That is an under statement btw.

🥀🥀🥀 for all those families of soldiers who have lost their lives or have been injured.

AGAA4 Fri 23-Jan-26 10:32:47

So many of our brave soldiers were killed or severely injured answering the US call for aid from NATO.
One of those soldiers asks for Trump to apologise to those families who are still suffering after losing a loved family member.
Trump has lowered himself even more now. Despicable being. Can't call him a man.

Can King Charles, as Commander in Chief of our British armed forces, really visit the White House in the summer now?

No!

Hahaha must be true then!

Honestly it would be laughable if it wasn’t so horrific. How dare he!

Trump is a disgusting, disgraceful, lying POTUS, who cares about nothing other than his hugely inflated egotistical self.

Nothing he does, including this latest so called World Peace committee fiasco, which hands him bucketfuls of extra power.

He has disrespected and offended so many people and nations.

RIP to our own brave troops in any war.

Our AC was also in Afghanistan, in a very dangerous operational situation.

My view on the current POTUS are unprintable🤬🤬🤬

I don't have any family in the forces but I am furious about what Trump said.
A soldier on BBC news, a triple amputee, after going to the aid of the US said he was shoulder to shoulder with the US soldiers on the front line.
This is just peevish Trump annoyed about Greenland.
I would be banned if I said how I really feel about this awful draft dodging man.

Such a dangerous, mentally unstable man. He will be the ruin of the world. I have never wished harm on anyone before, but I find myself wishing evil things on Trump.

Fallingstar Fri 23-Jan-26 10:10:29

Or the fact that any money given to the UK in 1945 was a loan, there was no largesse here, and the UK paid it back by 2006.

Marriedalongtime Fri 23-Jan-26 10:10:10

My son, a serving British soldier has served in tours of both Afghanistan and Iraq. He was most definitely was on the front line!

Both him and his family are still suffering the consequences of those tours to this day. I am just so angry and upset today by his heartless comments. How DARE this miserable excuse for a man downplay what our troops did in these places.

nanna8 Fri 23-Jan-26 10:07:05

You could say the Americans only joined in the Second World War on the side of the allies because the Japanese attacked them. Before that they tended to support the Germans. I don’t think Trump would like that as a home truth.

eddiecat78 Fri 23-Jan-26 10:02:00

It was not a "mistake", it was a blatant lie intended to convince his stupid supporters that America has never received any support from other nations. Presumably he thinks the rest of the world does not know the truth

Yes, I loved that she was clearly so angry and the calmly sneering smirking guy with his greasy hair did not flinch from his defence of the indefensible.

I saw a clip of Emily Thornberry on Question Time last night responding to a question about this. The American guest beside her said that Trump had made a 'mistake'. She went for that with all guns blazing! It was insulting was the theme of her response. She was obviously furious.
