Moral outrage - which is what drives the far right - does not like statistics PaynesGrey, it generally doesn't like facts either. It looks for the superficial and the buzz being angry gives.
“Two things only the people anxiously desire - bread and circuses.”
Interesting stats though. Thank you.
Thanks, DAR. My hope is that by 2029, younger voters, the majority of whom are likely to have different values to older generations. will save the UK from electing a fascist government and firmly reject the deliberately divisive politics of Farage, Kruger et al. A party banging on about race and LBGT isn’t a brand that the young find attractive.
The person who quipped: Reform isn’t the future but a past that some people can’t let go of was right. Kruger is an anachronism. A quick search on Danny Kruger + anachronism returned:
Views on "Christian Nation": In an interview and subsequent speech, Kruger argued for a "re-founding" of the UK on biblical teachings, suggesting the UK is fundamentally a Christian nation. A former Bishop of Oxford called this claim "anachronistic" and counter-productive, arguing that the idea of a "Christian nation" is outdated and not reflective of modern, multicultural Britain.
Views on the Family: In a 2023 speech, Kruger stated that marriage between a man and a woman is "the only possible basis for a safe and successful society". This comment was widely criticized as "insanely anachronistic" and out of step with modern values, particularly by those in same-sex and single-parent families.
Views on LGBTQ+ Rights: His staunch opposition to LGBTQ+ rights, which has earned him a 0% alignment score from equality watchdogs, led one Labour MP to describe him and his party's views as "Reform dinosaurs" whose "antediluvian nonsense" is "completely out of step with modern Britain and its values".
In short, "anachronism" has been used by critics to describe Kruger's socially conservative positions and rhetoric, which they argue belong to a past era and are not relevant to contemporary British society.
