Why don’t we use the military re stop the boats?

The military could be used the sink the boats mid channel but some might think that was inhumane, the solution is for the French to get their act together and stop the boats launching instead of watching them go

What I don't understand is why our Border Force and our RNLI are helping them. The smugglers business model seems to be absolutely based on "We'll (mis)use the Brits Border Force and RNLI to finish our job for us".

It is very frustrating watching this happening and feeling that all we can do to stop that misuse of OUR resources is to tell people to stop supporting the RNLI. I've gathered a noticeable number of people are no longer giving to the RNLI - but I don't know how much this is affecting their finances (as I gather they have plenty of money). The only person I know of that volunteers for them is doing it to boost her ego from what I can make out (as she makes a big thing of telling people how wonderful she is for doing this).

But I think our own Border Force are the ones that are acting biggest traitor to us from what it looks like to me. I don't know who is responsible for sending them off to do these "finish the people smugglers job off for them" and clearly has no loyalties to Britain then.

Goes off muttering "I wish other people were as capable of putting their foot down firmly as I would be in those positions....".

I think if the answer is to bring in the military, God help us, we need to deal with the question first.

I believe no data provided by Mr Trump.
He fires people whose data disagrees with him, however solid.
He says that employment is up, there is no reduction in visitor numbers to the USA, and inflation is down.
None of this is true.
This is the man who was going to bring down medication costs by 1200%, you may recall.
Of course, his policy of arresting his citizens, visitors, and legal foreign workers might deter immigration.
I am not enthusiastic about that .

Bea, there's too few servicemen as it is. The French get rid of a problem sending them to us no matter how unseaworthy and over full the craft. We are too weak to stop them. They come here because they get more money etc than the many countries they come through. It's silly,, for once start looking at the people we do have. Have a nil entrance policy until those we do have are processed. . Just slash the crafts before they leave but that's too simple.

It’s not such a stupid idea, it was debated in the Commons in 2021, Operation Isotrope the use of military to counter migrant crossings.
Of course it never happened.

For some reason there is really no appetite to stop the influx of illegal migrants.

I fear we will we having the same discussions in a 5 years time.

Yes exactly and the boats will keep on coming in the meantime. I doubt the UK will even be allowed to deport terrorists and rapists.

Why is it that, for every dirty, difficult job that nobody has the political will or the ability to do in this country, it’s “Why don’t we use the military?” Because, disgracefully few as they are now, they have better, more important things to do than stand on a beach turning back migrants!! Get real!

What a great idea, Trump is truly a genius. We could bring back coastal defences like in ‘39-45’, why oh why didn’t we think of it, come on Nigel get your brain into gear.

Then again , maybe it’s something to do with humanity, international law etc, those things that Trump and his ilk don’t seem to worry about. Any kids arriving can just be ripped away from their parents and put in cages, problem solved.

Well at least he came up with an idea. Trump is a do-er. He will put his ideas into practice. We badly need Starmer and Mahmood to follow suit.

I would say quite simply we do not have enough military to operate. Then if the boats. were turned back to France we would find we had broken some sort of maritime agreement.
