Good news.
Park Hotel at Diss, Norfolk have just announced they will not accommodate single men illegal immigrants.
There were protests at the hotel a few nights ago because locals do not want this small town invaded. It was peaceful until the pro migrant groups turned up who donât even live there.
Anyway, well done the Park Hotel. đđ

People like Farage are aiming for a summer of disruption. I hope gransnet doesnât become full of threads attempting to fuel itâŠ
I hope it does!
Does discord and disruption float your boat?
Personally, I'd rather have a summer full of sunny, warm days and lots of opportunities to drink tea in the garden.
I want that too but am so worried about the numbers of irregular immigrants coming into the country. Reform needs to keep up the highlighting of this issue and I hope they do. Every single one of my friends feels like I do and plenty on this forum too going by the threads on here.
Go to any town in uk and try and rent a property, young people cannot find anywhere, if they did they couldn't save for a deposit to ever buy a home. Somehow the government have no problem funding million for migrants. People wonder why there is trouble from their comfortable homes, many people I know whose adult child's relationship has broken down have a thirty or forty year old back home.

The booking had been made months in advance because it was an old school reunion with members from many places, including overseas!
Very annoying.
I agree. I know somebody who had her small wedding cancelled at quite short notice because the hotel was asked for a booking from a larger wedding party, which would have filled more rooms. That had nothing to do with asylum seekers - it's the way some hotels operate.

The latest NAO Report dated May 2025:

These ever increasing costs are frightening given the UKâs present economic position.Right now - and Britain isnt exactly giving the image of a rich country - when They're talking about putting retirement age up to early 70's!!!!!! In fact in today's paper They're talking about abolishing retirement altogether in effect - by talking about maybe even putting retirement age to 80!!!!!!! Yep....abolishing retirement totally then for the majority of people.
Who's "they"? Stop scaremongering!

We had booked a 4* hotel a while ago with a group but were told the week before that the booking was cancelled because the hotel was housing asylum seekers.
That was during the previous Government's term in office.
The hotel must have known that it was negotiating a contract which it was likely to win. Quite honestly, it shouldn't have been taking bookings. I know somebody whose job it was to make hotel bookings for groups - it's a bit of a dodgy business. The owners (who are often offshore) don't care much about service or late cancellations, if they have a better offer from another group/organisation. They're more likely to treat individual bookings better because they make more profit per room and it's easier to find an individual room somewhere.

We were gobsmacked watching Starmer say that, and not being able to say where all this vacant housing is! Nobody believes it.
Good point Oreo but in northern towns locally builders suddenly have council permission to build houses on green belt which has angered residents concerned about room for children to play and destroying wildlife habitats. Already lots of new houses are being built and demand seems to be slowing down now. So who will get these thousands of green belt houses? Call me cynical but if hotels are not going to be used alternative accommodation will be found and this could be the govt solution that theyâre not mentioning.
I bet you that the new houses will sell. The builders will offer incentives to make sure they do. What will probably happen is that the older and cheaper property will eventually attract those seeking very cheap starter homes and buy-to-lets and there'll be a slippery slope towards creating neglected areas.

Blimey! I suppose I'm lucky that I don't have any run down hotels near where I live.
Sorry, I didn't mean to lecture you. The fact is that the hotels being used aren't five star. By no stretch of the imagination could they be described as "premier", despite what the social media propaganda is claiming.
PS. Most of my post wasn't aimed at you. It was a further comment about what's actually been happening in Diss. Maybe I should have started a new post.

5*?
The hotels being used for asylum seekers are hardly five star! For example, if you look up the ratings for the hotel in Epping before it had a contract to take asylum seekers, the average ratings were 2*. There were many comments about how it was dirty and neglected.
Back to the op ... the hotel in Diss has had a contract for some time time to take homeless families. The issue is that the Home Office has hinted that it wants to use the hotel for single asylum seekers (not confirmed). The owners quite rightly make the case that many of the people staying there are single mothers with children and it would be asking for trouble to have single males (of any nationality) on site.
I doubt very much if it has ever been a luxury hotel. Councils don't put homeless people in five star hotels.
Secondly, much of this is rumour. The hotel has a contract with the Home Office for families. If the Home Office wants to break that contract, the hotel could defend itself in court. It doesn't need a load of heavies to protest outside the hotel and potentially spark a riot.
I was merely answering the question about what premier means as I have no idea where this hotel is.
No need to lecture me.

I suppose some Mums might be sensible, level headed people who have the brains to see past the racist rhetoric.
Or do you speak for all of them?

Those who are calling people objecting â far rightâ and âracistsâ should have been in Diss and seen the local Mums who just want their children to be safe. They are just ordinary parents who care.
In fact by calling people these names they are making ordinary people even more determined to have their say and join the protests.
They just donât want undocumented single young men being housed in their small town and near to their schools.
Great example to their children. Showing itâs ok to threaten people and attack the police.

If they are seeking asylum they should claim it in France which is a safe country.

Hope this helps with the legal versus illegal entry into UK âŠ
Yep! People who don't see an immigration officer - in other words, people who don't claim asylum! There's a difference between landing in a boat and immediately claiming asylum, which is perfectly legal under international law, and landing on a beach in the middle of the night and disappearing.
Asylum seekers are not acting illegally!
