What does it mean that the Church of England is the Established Church?

• Why do bishops sit in the House of Lords?
• What is the link between Church and State?

The Church of England is known as the Established Church with the Monarch as its Supreme Governor.

An Established Church is a church recognized by law as the official church of a state or nation and supported by civil authority.

It's not clear to me just what "established" means. I take it as meaning = it's our church/our main denomination - and then there's the other denominations....and I don't think it matters at all as to whether it has that word attached to it or no - as we all just see it as "That's our main church/main religion...".

Not familiar with the financial set-up - ie whether the Church of England gets any grant money or let off tax or something by the Government on the one hand but maybe the Scottish and Welsh bit don't....

It doesn't make any difference personally that I can see - just "That's OUR church...and there's the other Christian churches we have if one wants a change of emphasis".

I don't think Scotland has an Established Church either.

I'm not Anglican - I'm not particularly any label personally.

But "Anglican church" covers all bases in this country I feel. I know that in England it's referred to as "the Church of England", in Wales it's referred to as "the Church in Wales". I'd not checked before - but a quick google referred to it as being called "The Scottish Episcopal Church". So the Anglican church does exist throughout our country - it just might get a change of name dependant on which bit of our country we're talking about.

May be just as well to refer to it as "the Anglican church" wherever it is. I know I'd have had no idea what the Episcopal Church was and guess I'd just been assuming it's a different denomination. So that's new information to me that it's the same church/different name. I guess the Scottish bit is "established" - because the English and Welsh bit is - ie it's "the" denomination/"the" main church and then there's the others (Methodist, Baptist, Unitarian, etc etc).

Absolutely. We are heading for big trouble in this country. I doubt if Reform can solve anything but they say they will and people believe them. Labour have 4 years to sort this out otherwise Nigel Farage will be the next Prime Minister.

May I ask, has Nigel Farage actually spelled out HOW he is going to solve this ‘problem’? Now I may be missing that bit, so does anyone know what his policy would be?
My other concern is that I’ve seen things posted on here from government websites or Chartered Institute of Housing, but people still quote immigrants getting social housing, and being housed in luxury hotels. I wonder why people choose to believe this picture of ‘thousands’ of men ‘leering at women’, then going to their ‘premier’ hotel, rather than actually check out these stories.
I find that attitude much sadder than the immigrant problem.

This is certainly one of the things I am concerned about. I'm beyond "leering at" age group now - but it still concerns me.

....and beyond current concerns is I do seriously wonder about the rise in the number of Sharia courts in our country. Initially I thought - if they want to use their own "law" on their own people instead of "THE Law (the proper law") = that's up to them I guess. But I do worry they would try and use their "law" on us instead of "THE Law" (the real deal).

That's something I see coming - for US - if we don't stop this in its tracks.

I'm concerned too that already I suspect a lot of people (particularly women) in some areas will be doing self-restriction on their lives - eg not going out at night when they normally would, etc. I'm stubborn enough that I will keep leading my/our lifestyle always absolutely regardless and if I want to walk somewhere at night/wear revealing clothing/eat publicly in the daytime in any month of the year then I will do so. But I do know many women will self-restrict (eg that British woman that got told off for dressing in our way in our country the other day by men saying "It's OUR area" to her). Personally I've obviously learnt better than her (and many others) to stand up for myself - I've not come from a "hard" background - but I have had to learn to stand up for myself and I fear a lot of women haven't and will go in for (apparently voluntary) self-restriction.

Things can edge in very gradually. For instance just a few years back I would have had zero idea when Ramadan is. These days - one can't very easily miss it - because there are supermarket chains for instance having special Ramadan offers, there are Ramadan celebrations, etc. That means - in parts of our country - it's not a case of "Didnt abide by it because I didnt know it was happening". It's a case of "Couldnt miss it was happening - and having to use willpower on carrying on with life as normal and ignoring it" - as it would feel like subtle pressure not to, for instance, walk along the street eating - there might be glares, there might be people cheeky enough to tell us off for it.

We need a deterrent. Labour should have, at least, tried the Rwanda scheme rather than cancelling it on the first day after the election. We will never know now if it would have worked or not. It was very short sighted of Starmer

The problem with that is that so many of ‘our own’ homeless have other complex issues, like mental health conditions, or drug and alcohol dependency. Also, a lot of single parents with children are offered these empty properties, but refuse them for various reasons, like they would be away from family and friends. Much is made of ex-servicemen being ‘on the streets’ while ‘illegals’ are in 5 star hotels, but in many local authorities ( definitely in mine) ex servicemen are given priority, but again there are other issues like PTSD.
Sadly it is not as simple as number of homeless equals number of empty properties.

I have always advocated for those who want to seek asylum in the U.K. to be able to apply via our embassy’s abroad, or an office attached to/by them.

I abhor the millionaire people smugglers, who are the lowest of the low trading on people’s hopes and dreams, feeding them stories about our streets being paved with gold etc.,

I do not want to see Nigel Farage as our PM, I would like to seem our current PM crack on with his election promise of smashing the gangs

Granny Gravy - spot on but grow stuff and Mt61 seem determined to ignore people's concerns and stir the pot. I do not know what the cut and paste comment is about because the post was my own words and I certainly haven't seen anything on You tube. Of course I cry when a child or adult is murdered. The loss of a life in any dreadful circumstances in an untimely manner is to be mourned. Any decent human being would.
