Amongst Tory party members. Is it time for another change to see if that worksšŸ˜„.

Apparently Jenrick is popular.

Not much to choose from is there?

Wyllow3 Tue 20-May-25 14:32:06

The problem for the Conservatives and Reform is that Reform isn't just "more to the right" than the Conservatives. Reforms underlying ideologies have a resemblance to Trumps' visions of governance.

meanwhile starmer is -46

This post is about Badenoch, not Starmer.

We seriously need good, strong and positive opposition. Not more and more leadership changes.

I switch off when she talks.
I dont know why.

I wanted Jenrick to win the leadership contest.

But that was then and this is now.
I tend not to go back in time on anything.

Although I personally could never vote for the party of my MP (Braverman, say no more) I do think Cleverly is a more balanced option than Jenrick and less likely to put his foot in it with a loose cannon of a mouth.

Well, he was supposed to be the new leader but, along with everything else, the party messed up the voting.

Suella is still to pick her party?

There is no room for Suella in Reform. She’s a loose cannon and we all know what Farage does to loose cannons.

I think Badenoch is ineffectual.

And Johnson wrecked the Tory elite by getting rid of so many able and honourable MPs like David Gauke.

Yes, David Gauke was a good man.

However, the Tory’s foolish loss was Labour’s gain. Starmer obviously rated him highly as he appointed him to lead the prison review in 2024.

ā€Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer will appoint the former Conservative Justice Secretary David Gauke to lead a review of prison sentencing, the BBC has confirmedā€

Well done JohnsonšŸ™ˆ

But the Conservatives don’t seem to have any other candidate at the moment? Badenoch is a gift to Reform.

Think people forget Suella is waiting in the wings!

Now that's a name I would pick out. I thought her speaking was quite impressive last time round, or was that the time before?

I heard Priti Patel steamrollering Nick Ferrari this morning on LBC if anyone wants a listen. It was a negative rant about the EU deal and ended with her blaming the government for failing to get food into Gaza. She wouldn't make a good party leader either. We do need some good Conservative frontrunners but I can't think of a single candidate and I can hardly believe that, in my lifetime, I am seeing the demise of the Conservative Party but that's what seems to be happening. It is obvious now that Badenoch was a poor choice.

ronib Tue 20-May-25 13:29:27

Thinking about the last election, Starmer didn’t galvanise voters and gained power with a small percentage of the total vote….was it 20 per cent? The Conservatives blew it.

I think Badenoch should stay in place for a bit longer- she seems good at being irritating. This seems to have been the primary role of the leader of the opposition for quite some time now. However as prime minister, I don’t think Badenoch has a chance.

šŸ˜„šŸ˜„šŸ˜„she s very good at embarrassing herself. She is a gift to the Labour Party.

Casdon Tue 20-May-25 13:04:38

The key thing a leader of the party that has just lost a general election needs to do is to reform, and galvanise, the party back to a position to fight the following election with a good chance of winning. I don’t really think being irritating is anything to do with it.

This thread is not about Starmer ronib, but about whether you think Badenoch is doing a good job, and if you don’t, who do you think should replace her?

ronib Tue 20-May-25 12:36:51

I thought the leader of the opposition majored in negativity - Starmer certainly did when he held that position.

Gin Tue 20-May-25 12:28:34

I only hear Badenoch’s constant. negativity. I have no idea how she would solve our major problems, she just shouts down anything Labour puts forward. I have not heard if she has put forward a single solution to help those in poverty.

Grantanow Tue 20-May-25 11:55:05

Grantanow Tue 20-May-25 11:53:25

The Tories need (and deserve) 10 years in the wilderness to reformulate their views and to grow a new leadership. Badenoch is a waste of time and Jenrick would be worse. They need to resuscitate former senior Tory as a stand-in leader ( just as they did with Muchael Howard).

Wyllow3 Tue 20-May-25 11:03:06

My enduring image of Badenoch is trying to fire criticism at Starmer on the ballot box, or when she criticises for example atm the UK/EU deal.

I really have no idea what she does stand for or what positive policies she feels would benefit the UK. Its really needed, whoever has the role

I dont know if Jenrick is popular or not, are there polls? He is better at getting policy across, but his policies echo many of Reforms.

Surely Cleverly would have made a better job? Or Stride?

henetha Tue 20-May-25 10:19:31

Mel Stride, the present shadow chancellor, is our local MP.
He seems a decent bloke, attends lots of local events and is generally well liked here. But I didn't vote for him as I am not a tory supporter.
How about him for leader?

LizzieDrip Tue 20-May-25 09:34:08

GG do you see anyone in the current Tory cohort who could / would bring the party back to its ā€˜natural home’?
