The 'taxpayer' isn't funding this, the State is.

It is only 'our' money in the sense that the money the state creates can be regarded as a public good, even though it is one that we have elected a government to spend and administer on our behalf.

I'll point out, once again, that no-one (apart from the mega rich who have huge reserves of it) would have any money if the state didn't continually create it.

Bu, then, hanging on to the 'taxpayers' money' myth is a great excuse for venting bile on any government action that one disapproves of..

Thanks Wyllow for putting it right. The majority of asylum seekers are granted right to stay. Landlords know how easy it is to buy cheap terraced housing in deprived areas. They rent through Serco and others, to asylum seekers. The dispersal scheme leads to some families being isolated from community supports. Eg African Angolan moved from the Liverpool area with a community with similar faith/experience into areas with few/no people ‘like them’

We need to rapidly move to allowing asylum seekers to work. No one can manage on the money they get. Many have good skills to contribute. A friend who had two carers, 4 times a day was so well cared for by women who’d been given settled status. He learned about the perils they faced in their part of Africa, and on their journey here. 4 came to his funeral

These big firms like SERCO are making a huge profit and controversy around using them versus funding local authorities.

I fail to understand where all these homes are going to come from as we already have problems finding accommodation for those that live in the UK.
They certainly should not be free, once the person has been cleared to stay in the UK and has found employment they should repay the cost of the accommodation.

I expect the rental income will be more favourable than the normal market rent to induce landlords to sign up. Others will see it as a business opportunity and buy up properties in poorer areas to rent out.

Oh FGS, It has nothing to do with hatred for migrants, but everything to do with the acute lack of accommodation for people who live in this country, have been searching, and/or on waiting lists for months/years, and are actually homeless, ie living on the streets. Perhaps those advocating this latest government solution has a spare room to offer for a homeless person in these times of crisis? Ummmm!!

Surely it’s not talking rubbish or racist to express concern over taxpayer funded rentals for migrants when so many people cannot afford a home of their own. There is no five year guarantee for them and many live with the fear of being made homeless should they struggle with sky high rents.

Different story altogether then rafichagran! He’d be very welcome today in my book. We’d know who he was a whence he came from his correct paperwork! I’d have no issue with legal migration. Individuals can be traced. Very sensible.

Yes, this, by the same poster quoting from the press. The title in the OP said migrants, not illegal migrants and why are we talking about lads it could be a family, single women ect.
My partner came over here in the 70's, always worked, paid taxes, and done a job in the end where he managed a team doing a job that benefitted people who needed alot of help. He was a migrant with all the correct paperwork, paid alot of tax and NI.
