Trump Pauses Aid To Ukraine

GG13 unfortunately just a few days ago, our prime minister was in full bloom with Trump. Full best mates mode.
This situation seems to be gaining momentum and we need to understand this is very fluid.
My impression is that Trump wants to buy less from outside the USA and to increase its internal manufacturing capacity. How different is that? Hence the need for raw materials from Ukraine and other countries.

They have zero political gravitas, their only card is to threaten to withdraw services and pit silly tariffs on goods going into the U.K. without being aware that this will hurt the USA more than other countries.

I’ve just spent a bit of time looking up secession from the US union and was quite surprised to see that there axa number of States that have explored this in the past twenty years, including Alaska, Hawaii and California.

I don’t like the way the conversation is developing. Vance is saying clearly Z needs to hear that this can’t go on forever.

Robots from Russian propaganda infiltrate many public media such as some newspapers and broadcasters. I doubt if any of the Grans are themselves robots however some Grans read polluted newspapers and watch unsafe broadcasts.

I've also watched the KK podcast, basically having reacted like most of us did when we saw the interview in the Oval office he now thinks Zelensky's big mistake was his lack of grovelling to Trump. (My words but it gives a sense of what he said). I thought Zelensky stayed polite and Trump and Vance were deliberately baiting him so we disagree there. The one thing I do agree with is he says that Zelensky had not taken into account that Trump and his MAGAmen/women didn't care about Ukraine, didn't want to spend money in Ukraine, probably won't even know where Ukraine is and don't understand why their taxes were being used to support Ukraine's war. I do agree with this. My only positive thought is that not everyone who voted for trump was/is a MAGA supporter.

I completely deny ronib's viewpoint while acknowledging her/his right to hold it. I feel she/he and David appear to be in a minority, wishing for Zelensky to settle and appease Putin. In addition, her/his jaundiced view of the United Kingdom is not wholly accurate and says more about her/him. I'm proud that Starmer tried to talk to Trump and then promptly had a meeting with European leaders and Canada. I suspect that meeting was already organised in the event of trump treating Zelensky the way he then did.
Appeasement is never a good idea with bullies- they come back to hit harder. Europe and Canada have many more available troops than Russia, even counting America out. Russia is weaker than it's been. Ukraine have won back a city previously held by Russia.

To any American hoping to apply for British citizenship please be aware that our hospitals are crumbling, the NHS is in the process of being remodelled, private education is under fire, food prices rise all the time and energy is in a state of flux and super expensive.
Not only that but Europe has refused to pay its way on defence and it will take at least 3 years to build itself back to where it should be.
It’s entirely right for Trump to take full responsibility for the defence of America and to encourage the rest of the world to meet its own obligations without recourse to America.

They don’t care . They just want out . It is very difficult to get a visa though and VERY expensive . So no worries about a flood of Americans suddenly showing up in your town or village .

Never mind a new world order I would more aptly call it a new axis of evil.

We need to ask, what do they want Zelensky to do? It cant just be about signing some minerals deal

are they asking for him to step down in favour of a puppet ruler, and how could that be achieved

The UK is keeping its stance that the US needs to be involved in a peace process: other European leaders that we have to strengthen defence.

I don’t think the US armaments industry, which is profiting from the Ukraine war, is going to be too thrilled about this development but I suppose that the European ‘alliance’ could buy the arms instead to send to Ukraine.

I don’t know about the other countries but I saw it reported yesterday that Germany is planning a massive ‘off the books’ increase in monies to deal with this crisis, subject to the approval of their parliament

Yes Merz was talking about that last week. Taking his foot off the debt brake, which is the fiscal restraint Germany has employed for a good while.

Trump's aggressive behaviour emboldens all the other despots. He has certainly given Putin a big lift.
