Name calling isn’t the same as satire. I haven’t seen anyone defending name calling “ as long as it’s not Labour” . All politicians should be able to take a jibe at their policies.

I Hope Robber Reeves Will Be Paying Attention To The Weather Forecast
(78 Posts)With universal predictions of nosediving temperatures this coming week, I'll bet plenty of apprehensive pensioners will be doing just that.
Shame, shame on you Chancellor!

I’m of the opinion that two wrongs don’t make a right.
Yes!
So I hope those who have continued to ignore that stricture and called Thatcher, Truss, Johnson, Hunt, etc names sill accept your reprimand too.

Just to be clear, I haven’t retaliated in the way you suggest. I have merely pointed out the truth, that is that posters on GN have said vile things, and unpleasant things, about politicians that they don’t like. Read my post, I’ve said nothing about any current politician, of any party, that could be regarded as name calling.
I agree that politicians should expect a degree of er...robust comments.
What I don't like is the childish ""nicknames" that seem to have started- Robber Reeves, Two Tier Kier etc.
During many exchanges about the previous
cabinet, including references to Ms Truss not lasting as long as the lettuce(!), I do not recall endless headings referring to Lettice Truss, or Judas Johnson , or similar.
Unpleasant names are for school children ( we had some not very nice names for a couple of our teachers) not adults, surely ?

It's always happened, Chocolatelovinggran

That's just Prime Ministers!
Third Degree Burns. Simon Burns, former health minister and transport minister, who obtained a third-class degree in history at Oxford.
30p Lee
William “14 Pints” Hague.
Eight Homes Huhne
David “Two Brains” Willetts
Etc
And, of course, the never-to-be-forgotten Lord Prescott, aka Two Jags Prescott. Or Two Jabs.
RIP John Prescott.
Thats's true!
Personally I don't use them anyway but especially I'd never use them as a title or an O/P.
It starts off what might be an interesting political thread on a topic into part-farce as mockery just puts backs up instead of talking on the issue.
She's a champagne socialist like most of the Labout cabinet and doersn't give a damn about elderly people. Of course, since most of us over 55 don't vote Labour and might hold politically incorrect views, we're expendable.
I'm a champagne socialist . I want everyone to have champagne, not just the ruling elite!
Me too. I enjoy a glass of champers. I do not object to anyone enjoying a glass, as long as they buy it themselves! I strongly object when some people just expect it to be paid for by someone else.
Oh, I can only afford Prosecco or Cava.
A sparkling wine by any other name would taste as sweet good.
I have a more Tory than Tory friend ( yes it’s a bit of a struggle) who never seemed to pick up that I wasn’t.
She used to refer to champagne socialists as an insult so was surprised when I asked was it only conservatives who were allowed to drink champagne. She had no answer. For a change.
As for most over 55 s voting Tory Cumbrianmale, not sure that’s the case. Certainly it’s not in my case and that of many of my friends,

I think those who use the term 'champagne socialist' basically don't understand the philosophy of socialism - as their frequent references to Venezuela and Cuba, etc, would indicate.
For me, it means - to borrow from Boris Johnson - a "levelling-up" of society, investing in people, education and welfare. The Nordic model - which is sometimes referred to as socialism. And levelling up means that people might be able to afford champagne... and even go to the Opera without raising cynical eyebrows.
That’s right Dickens.
Why do you label R Reeves a “champagne socialist” as a sneer? She isn’t from a monied background and I don’t know whether she drinks champagne or not. Can only Tories drink champagne? Seems a bit unfair.
It's all very well understanding economics, but she is dealing with real people. It's certainly true that many people don't actually need the fuel allowance but she needs to raise the threshold. The king is actually eligible for it, which is ridiculous but many who are not on benefits DO need it.
How is the king eligible for it? His income is quite healthy as far as I know.

Perhaps he's on Pension Credit. 😁
Anyhow, the winter fuel bill must be horrendous for those draughty old castles and palaces.
I remember HM Queen Elizabeth used to go round turning off the lights that more careless people left on.

You might not have seen it, but plenty of us have seen it, and given examples. Yesterday I saw a post that claimed Boris Johnson killed thousands of people. As I said yesterday, Boris Johnson (love him or hate him) killed no one. However COVID killed many thousands. To accuse anyone of killing other people is nothing short of vile in my opinion.
It’s more than possible that some older people may die as a result of the cold this winter because they’ve lost their WFA. I doubt anyone will say Starmer has killed them.
I’ve seen a clip of Ed Davies this morning saying that the government absolutely should not have removed the WFA. I thought that was interesting because I thought he would have backed the government, but no!

Whatever we think, or don’t think, about RR I heartily wish people would stop calling her Robber Reeves.
It is insulting and derogatory. No she's not a robber. She is a horrible individual and she doesn't care how many people she hurts.
She doesn't care if people will die from the cold.
She doesn't care that people may lose their jobs due to employer NI increases.
She doesn't care that shops will continue to increase prices.
She doesn't care about poor NHS services.
She doesn't care that her lies are so easily exposed.
She's warm and toasty in her lair. She will never have to worry about surviving on a pension or keeping warm. She is set for life.
Hear,hear! Totally agree Gummie!

Hear, hear. Attacks on the person may indicate inability to attack the policy.

Perhaps he realises his home (s) are a bit big for his needs, but doesn't want to move.

Downsizing is such a problem, especially the decluttering of centuries!
I bet if he had a choice he'd be living at Highgrove full-time.
