We are about to switch to The Guardian. We used to subscribe to The Telegraph because DH liked their sports coverage. Moved to The Times when we saw how rabidly pro leave they were during the referendum. Now realising how totally anti Labour they are we’re not prepared to support them in any way. The only thing I’ll miss is Caitlin Moran’s weekly column.

The Guardian offers counselling to staff after ‘upsetting’ Trump election result!
(548 Posts)The Guardian is offering counselling to staff as it vowed to support its workforce after Donald Trump’s “upsetting” US election victory this week.
In an email to staff, The Guardian’s editor Katharine Viner said the election had “exposed alarming fault lines on many fronts” and urged journalists based in the UK to contact colleagues in the US “to offer your support”.
I’m glad I don’t give The Guardian any of my money if they waste it to coddle employees in this way!
Galaxy counselling may not be ‘for you’ but it’s a lifeline for some. We are all different.
I’m sorry to hear that Galaxy. That must have been terrifying.
Surely, then, you understand how frightening it is to feel under threat.
That's a good question about counselling. I suspect a lot of it is utterly ineffective, I dont know what I feel about counselling to be honest. I think we are failing monumentally in terms of mental health, especially young people, I think part of that may be pathologising 'normal' emotions, and the relentless chasing of happiness.

Nobody offered me counselling when labour got in
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I and other feminists have been threatened with decapitation if that is any help.
Whatever the reason. What's wrong with counselling anyway? It's talking about emotions. Most organisations offer it these days.
You’re welcome WellsRose.
Sometimes comments by some posters on GN make my heart sink.

Oh and I can say that I have absolutely been threatened because of my opinions. As has every feminist I know.
Have you been threatened in a country with liberal use of guns?
WellsRose
The man is a legally defined sex offender and I'm upset because I've been raped. It's probably upset a lot of other victims.
I'd imagine the family of the police officer who was murdered by the Capitol rioters and the 174 police officers injured are a pretty upset.
Trump getting in isn't just about being left or right. There's an organisation called 'Republicans against Trump's. It is frightening that someone like is in.
Am sorry WellsRose. Seems there are some who will forgive a man anything as long as he hates immigrants.
Is a very sorry state of affairs.
😞

The reference the guardian has made is to do with climate security, global se security, etc. I can only go by what they have said. There are a thousand possible reasons, I can only go on what it is reported.
Is this the reference?
www.theguardian.com/us-news/2024/nov/06/how-the-guardian-will-stand-up-to-four-more-years-of-donald-trump
Your understanding and mine would appear to be different.

Around the world there are many examples of journalists being attacked, killed and jailed, simply for doing their jobs. Donald Trump has stirred up hatred of reporters and journalists, including recently saying he wouldn’t mind if they were shot. Because of the heightened fear of truth being reported, Mr Trump’s words are sometimes taken as incitement to violence, as we saw when he lost in 2020. Guardian journalists in America - and others - will be under greater threat now, and it remains a worrying time because of the mercurial nature of the President Elect and the lack of calmer voices around him this time round.
Thank you for a rational post Lilyslass.

Thank you LizzieDrip. People like you make life nicer x

Wow, talk about get your priorities right, is this a news and politics forum dealing hopefully with topics for serious debate or a chance for some commenters with axes to grind against the Guardian or any media outlet that doesn’t kiss Trumps backside to make scathing/mocking remarks about it.
And btw if we are talking about mollycoddling did any of you know that Farage doesn’t hold face to face surgeries like other MPs because he said he is scared.
Lyndsey Hoyle had to tell him to buckle down. Which he hasn’t.
See. We can all have a go if we want to. But that isn’t a political debate.
Did the Torys do anything that caused suffering. Loads more children living in poverty and cuts to services including education
WellsRose my heart goes out to you; I’m sorry that some on GN appear to find the discussion topic hilarious, even though you’ve shared your upset.
At least you, and a few others here, have enough empathy to understand that caring for others isn’t a joke
I suppose we’ll be considered as the ‘woke’ minority. So be it; I’m happy with that.

I was going to say I don’t believe this nonsense for one minute, but actually nothing would surprise me where the sanctimonious Guardian is concerned !
Nor me! Pathetic!

Have you been physically threatened for your views or challenging opinions?
Exactly.
Galaxy
Wells we are expressing a view in the guardian not with regard to your experience.
Thank you Galaxy for your sensible comment.

The people who start these threads and who revere Farage and Trump and so on have a lot to answer for.
It's not going to stop though is it?Please do tell what Farage has done. Or are you worried about a slander suit. 4 million people voted for his party, or are you going down the dopey Jo path and calling them names.
Addendum, those who voted Labour have a lot to answer for, freezing pensioners, and destroying family farming businesses. 😡
How do you know those journalists aren't rape victims?
