I don't normalla either. But reading Rory Stewart's book currently and it is fascinating, and quite scary too- especially when it comes to the Middle East.
Govt announces Ukrainian style scheme to bring thousands more migrants to UK
Boris was unceremoniously shunted off the discussion panel of a US Election Special when he kept holding up a copy of "his" book (and the rumours that it's been 'ghost-written' won't go away) and just blatantly advertising it. In a debate about American politics?
He ignored warnings not to do this, so he was cancelled, pronto.
A man who knows no shame......

I don’t read political books. I don’t like them, and so I’m unlikely to read BJ’s book. I did try to read Thatcher’s book years ago, since she was the first female PM and so on, I thought it might be interesting. I managed to get half way through before I gave up. I just don’t really care how these people climb their way up the greasy pole.
However, the one thing that struck home from the part I read was how difficult it actually was for Thatcher, both because she was a woman, but also because of the absolute opposition towards her because she was grammar school educated and the daughter of a grocer. She didn’t come from the ‘right’ background in the opinion of many of the men in her cabinet/party, and most probably the entire Parliament in that time.

Oh I love that merlotgran.

I read Harry's book! Don't shoot me! 😲 😲
The Ginger Whinger just moaned and grumbled on every page, complaining about everything, blaming everyone.
I would imagine Boris' book will be far more upbeat and humorous, maybe even the odd laugh at himself?
I love political autobiographies, I’ve read quite a few, and I read Boris’ book - it does have some amusing observations, but rarely does it tally with other contemporaneous accounts of what happened - it has to be taken as a work of fiction not fact. I don’t think it comes a cross as ghostwritten though, it has his personality.
I won’t read the book (so won’t be allowed an opinion on it), my opinion on Johnson precludes that.

Well, if you don’t read it, you can’t really have an opinion on it, can you?
Plenty of people had opinions on Harry’s book, but were very keen to say they wouldn’t be reading it.I read the serialised bits in that paper I shouldn’t be reading and that was quite enough to get the message.

If it drops in price, might have a go ☺ .
I've seen it 50% off in a few bookshops. Definitely in The Works.

After reading this, I have ordered the book from the library.
I am 95th on the waiting list, so many others want to read it also. But many people want to read the book because they think it will be silly and hilarious. Not everyone reads a book like this because they admire the subject.
Many will read it because they hold this man in such contempt, or consider him a charlatan and want to laugh at his effrontery. much the same reason many people read Prince Harry's magnum opus, a latin tag!
People will read out of curiosity, nothing else I think. Although I certainly wasn't the least little bit curious about Harry navel gazing, and family slag off. I think Boris would be more readable. If it drops in price, might have a go ☺ .
Good plan. Borrow from the library, so you don't have to pay for it.

It amazes me that so many people think of Boris Johnson as being clever because he uses a bit of 'O' level latin. The man is a charlatan on every level including his journalism and his erudition.
I wouldn’t spend a brass farthing or waste my time reading anything by that self promoting lier. The thought of doing anything to line his pockets gives me the heeby jeebies.
He got an advance of £88k in 2015 for the Shakespeare book, not sure he's even started it - it's a paltry amount to him now.
Did he ever finish writing that book? The one on Shakespeare, that allegedly he was working on in Chequers, instead of doing the job he was being paid for, which at that specific time was to attend COBRA meetings to discuss how to deal with the Covid pandemic.
Polarising figures are always talked about I think - people are still talking about Margaret Thatcher over 40 years after she became PM.
At the end of the day... People are still taking about Boris.

Does anyone need to buy his book. Wasn't it serialised in the DM?
You're not allowed to read the DM if you belong to GN.

It was a joke.
Sorry if you that went over the top of your head!
You are allowed to read what you want- but we are all allowed to tell you why you should not.
But I am assuming that was not posted in a similarly jocular fashion.
I could be wrong, however, and would be happy to be told otherwise!
Well of course it was. Saying that 'you are not allowed to read the DM' was just such a silly comment. And I replied in the same vein- using the word 'should not', which is hardly an 'order'.

I didn’t read fleurs remark as anything to take offence over,, it was just a jokey response to me.
I found it offensive too.

How does anyone know no offence was intended?
Being told what you are or are not allowed to do without any reason is offensive to most people.
