Thing is, Wyllow most of Trump's most devoted fans couldn't care less if he tells lies and when Trump takes part in a Joe Rogan podcast he's not talking to a "political" audience so they probably won't recognise a stupid or obvious lie as basically they are not interested in politics which is why they tend not to vote. It's terribly sad but rational arguments don't touch an audience like that but being entertained, finding someone "funny" or hearing something that they think might be an advantage to them (however unlikely) might get them out to vote. I hope it doesn't but if I were in Trump's shoes it would be worth three hours of my time.

The US Election.
(736 Posts)With only 3 weeks to go, perhaps we can start to watch the shenanigans taking place in the USA.
Trump is warning America of his intention post election.
“Donald Trump has provoked an angry backlash from Democrats after calling for the US armed forces to be turned against his political adversaries when voters go to the polls at next month’s presidential election.
In comments that added further fuel to fears of an authoritarian crackdown if he recaptures the White House, the Republican nominee said the military or national guard should be deployed against opponents that he called “the enemy within” when the election takes place on 5 November.
He singled out the California congressman, Adam Schiff, who was the lead prosecutor in the ex-president’s first impeachment trial, as posing a bigger threat to a free and fair election than foreign terrorists or illegal immigrants, his usual prime target for abuse.
Trump’s comments, to Fox News in response to a question on possible election “chaos”, triggered an angry reaction from Kamala Harris’s campaign, which likened them to previous remarks that he would be a dictator “on day one” of a second presidency and his suggestions that the US constitution should be terminated to overturn the 2020 election result, which he falsely claims was stolen by Joe Biden”.
As I say every politician will be on podcasts in the future speaking to the 'stupid' people. All 14 million of them.
I'm sure they will. All carefully orchestrated. I don't like this SM route they are going down where it's all PR and no substance. Where AI replaces real people contact. Where lies go unchallenged, unsubstantiated, where millions and millions of dollars are spent to basically "buy" elections.
Oh well. A week to go and we can all stop speculating (and probably start carping instead!). 😁
The ‘battle lines’ are pretty much drawn I think. Neither side is much listening t’other side, here on GN as well in real life in the USA., let alone clicking on links or debating sensibly. There’s a lot of hyperbole on here and a lot of agitated screaming and frenzy in America, so I will bow out now and await next Wednesday’s election results.
May the best candidate win.
(Trump of course). 😁
Apologies for my childish behaviour but I couldn’t resist a last hurrah for him!
FGT I shall sit watching the results come through on CNN and imagine you doing the same but wearing a big MAGA hat! I will, of course, be rooting for the other side but also praying that whoever wins that there is no repeat of the violence we witnessed last time.

I wasted 3 hours of my time trying to see what "the other side" sees.
Even Joe tried again and again to bring Trump back to the point/question.
He is not an interesting listen (some other Republicans are/have been.
It took genuine stamina to listen to the end of his "weave" (3 hours)
I have to add, as a weaver - it felt more like a scramble/knotting.
Weaving actually requires lots of advanced planning and organising. It is not like spaghetti!
I have no idea why Kamala Harris didn't do the interview offered by Joe except that she is trying to hold both ends of her coalition together by "playing safe". However she is starting to go harder on Trump recently so I hope that doesn't backfire.
This is why - he wanted to call the tune.

Always 2 sides to the story. He insists she travel to Austin Texas. She wants an hour, not prepared to travel that far in her already planned schedule.
If Rogan really wants to talk, for goodness sake we have very sophisticated technology.
He is not in particular need of any more listeners though is he, she may need the votes.
On the other hand, why would she? The people who listen to him aren’t her likely voters anyway, and to suggest she should let down people who are, to fly to spend a hour on his programme at such short notice seems faintly ridiculous. It’s not like she hasn’t done lots of other interviews.
Sudden wave of fed upness with these ego driven men - Trump, Musk, now Rogan......
The places she is doing interviews are waning in power. It's happened whilst the old style media have been 'sleeping'.
I’m not sure what you mean Galaxy? There are less voters undecided the nearer the election gets obviously, and she is campaigning directly in the key states. Should she flood social media with untruths to out-trump Trump?
I mean that the media landscape has completely changed without most people noticing, I would say in a few years time most people wont be accessing news/politics from traditional media.
Sadly I think you might be right, Galaxy and that will mean more polarisation of opinion as people get fed even more of the same views but increasingly extreme. It might also mean that politicians will try to be seen as entertaining and likeable rather than knowledgeable and competent. Where service to their country /constituents will come is anyone's guess. I find it all a bit depressing.

I understood she was being extremely successful with young women voters on Tik Tok?
That's good, if I was her I would have done Joe Rogan though.

So it's about him not wanting to travel to her and her not wanting to travel to him?
Also he wants "more than an hour".
Seems a bit odd.
Why won't either of them travel?
I've listened to his Trump interview so what Trump says about it isn't really relevant...
He did say it's not "off the cards" yet though.
🤞
It's astonishing to me that he chose to have a rally at Madison Square Garden. It must have been a huge ego boost for him to be in his home town, and scads of people went to it--but Republicans don't do well at all in NYC and that's not likely to change as a result of his rally. Was there a great deal of benefit for him? It's unclear. The vulgarity was there, as usual, though I don't think he discussed the penis of a famous golfer this time, hooray, and the racism was prominent, which may hurt him with Puerto Ricans in Pennsylvania.
I do wonder, though--apparently he called out to women who are always in the front row of his rallies--the same women time after time--but called their organization by the wrong name. (Ooops.) So, repeat attenders are part of the show. It does seem that many of his admirers have attended several rallies. (I don't think that's necessarily true of Harris's admirers, but then in the last 12 years she obviously hasn't had anywhere as many rallies as Trump has.) That might explain the phenomenon we've seen again and again, people streaming out of his rallies before he's done speaking: he tends to get on stage late, and if attenders have heard him speak repeatedly and it's getting late, perhaps they think "Well, we got here, but time's a-wastin' and I heard this before" and feel like it's okay to go? It does seem kind of insulting to him, however.

I do hope so!
I know his team have been trying to distance him from it...

You deserve a medal for that. I can’t listen to his horrible voice for a minute, let alone three hours!
I think for Trump voters his negative factors are priced in, similar to the way Johnson's were priced in by the Tory faithful.
Bezos has commercial problems with the Washington Post. It's losing money badly and maybe its glory days as a mainstream print paper are coming to an end.
Just watched a few interviews of KH, she just talks in riddles, absolutely has me tied in knots trying to work out what she’s talking about-she makes no sense whatsoever 🙄
