Sue Grey has resigned

I know Wales, both population and government, would like a more robust relationship with consultation, scheduled meetings and communication routes so that we are not back footed by changes being announced which affect us, but which there has been no consultation about. I can’t speak for Scotland or NI, but I’d imagine it’s important to them too. I don’t know if that’s what is in mind for Sue Gray, but I know it’s what we need.

I don’t know how already devolved areas will view it. That remains to be seen I guess.

Its also part of L Party policy to see how far devolved regions would work (eg, leadership, and policy by Andy Burnham and other mayoral areas) - I'm presuming this is also part of the brief.

There was also a lot of friction between the government and the other national governments and the civil servants working for them under the conservatives, with the latter complaining about lack of engagement, recognition or partnership working. I sincerely hope this new role will improve those relationships too.

Before the GE Labour talked a lot about more devolution to the regions. Perhaps it was felt that someone was needed to co-ordinate initiatives...

Pity shes gone as she didn't do Labour any favours any more than she did Conservatives. Who will be lucky to get her next.

Sue Gray is now Envoy for the Nations and Regions which sounds very impressive.

Until yesterday the job did not even exist.

It was in response to a post commenting how odd it is that Tory (and Reform) voters are on the thread criticising the Labour Government.

In fact I don't think it's odd at all.

I agree with you - it's fine!

It’s all good to discuss what we consider to be failings of anybody including the PM and cabinet as well as the shadow cabinet and any other political groups in Parliament.

Makes total sense to employ people in key positions which a much Higher salary than PM. PM has very low salary when compared to other people in such key positions in business or finance.

But is it right that the PM's salary is relatively low?

I started the thread on the Conservative leadership as I have a genuine interest in getting a good opposition, a lively working parliament. Simple as that. It's at a crucial point, today it gets cut to 3 contestants, tomorrow 2.

That's absolutely fine.

I don't have a vote in the leadership contest, am not a member of any political party and am a tactical voter.

I’ve got no comment on the Tory leadership because it’s party members that will determine the new leader, the same group that elected Johnson and Truss.
They would elect Johnson again tomorrow, they hated the “moderate” Sunak chosen by MPs. Judging by the extreme anti Labour propaganda in the press there is absolutely no indication they will choose a moderate this time.

Those who believe the rubbish in the newspapers are idiots, it is simply Tory propaganda I hope Starmer holds the line and does what is needed to mend the economy.

That is not maintaining giveaways to Tory voters who have too much already.

Yes, I agree about needing a strong opposition. But one that has the intelligence not to oppose just for the sake of opposing. Something that Badenoch will imo do.

No, a good opposition is in everybody’s interest, surely? Perhaps the difference is that we aren’t too sensitive when people point out that our posts aren’t relevant though, which is what happens in most debates, parry and counter parry is the norm.

Those of us who thought they should have a chance to bring some decency back into politics did not expect anything like this, so naturally we're disappointed.
