It's not hard to see a wind up in play with those sort of memes:

let justice take its course: the policeman involved will have to be assessed, as will those who provoked the incident, the injuries addressed from all those involved. The policeman will have legal assistance, as well as those charged with offences.

Then things escalated (no video footage yet). A WPC got her nose broken (no video yet). There will be CCTV capturing these events. Then the call went out for back up.

And I’ve have thought a cyst will be found not to be a recent finding. It’s not an injury like a haematoma. This could have pre-dated the incident. Medics will assess and determine -hence we ought not to jump to conclusions calling it ‘brain injury’.

You are usually more circumspect.

I am being circumspect, simply because I would always err on the side of caution, and applaud the fact that the police officer who appears to have used excessive violence is to be investigated.

Our police must be subject to the same rule of law as the citizens they police, because without that we would rapidly become a police state.

That same rule of law will be used for the men who apparently caused a fracas both on the plane and when it landed.

The law should not distinguish between the two.

Had a look at some of the footage - I clearly recognise the mass produced posters carried by many of those attending Urms. Same format used for other demos.

Have had a brush with them in the distant past, and will just say they are an agit prop group who take advantage of any situation to prove we live in a "Capitalist Police State" and are unrelated to the matter at hand.

I heard some of Nicky Campbell’s phone in on this earlier. A caller called Steve is a serving officer. He talked about the violence and abuse police face and the need for the investigation to have video in the build up to the dreadful kicking / stamping incident. The co-caller, Mohammed compared the actions of GMP officers with the violence meted out in Palestine by the IDF. Nicky Campbell rightly imo stopped the caller developing that idea.

The new CC of GMP Stephen Watson seemed to be making progress in improving his force. It needs stability and the strong leadership he seems to be showing

I have a very erratic broadband connection just now, and the only footage I've seen was a minute ago on Newsnight, and I have to say it is shocking.

I understand that it may be a small segment of a bigger whole, but it was dreadful. If that had been my son, I would be apoplectic. And as for Lee Anderson - words fail me.

As people say, though, let's wait for the whole story.

Lee Anderson’s intervention is not helpful. I saw him earlier in the day on the news.
The more recent developments I’ve only read about on GN. I did know there had been troubles on the plane. It’s crucial now, moving forward, that all the available evidence is collected, including whatever evidence is available from the plane, the crew should be helpful there. The background to this event is crucial to full understanding. I’m sure the police will do their job properly and with integrity.

I was calling DH because he'd gone back only about 10 feet to explain to the rest of our group why there was a delay. DH (of course) carried on "Just a minute, dear", and the immigration officer went for his gun and yelled at me to get him!

The US is just one place where disobeying instructions or doing something unexpected is going to put you in danger.

In Manchester the police should not have kicked the guy on the floor, but it was retaliation for his female colleague being punched in the face. We havn’t heard why she was punched and what led up to that, whatever the reason assaulting a female officer is going to result in a hard response.

DH was not disobeying instructions (apart from mine), he was unwittingly doing something which apparently broke some unwritten rule.
He's not that stupid, he has spent time in the USA.

David49, where is the evidence to support your conclusion that the officer kicked the man lying on the floor on his head ‘in retaliation for his female colleague being punched in the face’?
The video I’ve seen led me to be concerned the officer had lost control.
I’m in no way defending the behaviour of men that led to three officers needing hospital treatment. The loss of control by the officer who has rightly been suspended is part of what must be a thorough investigation

The police are there to maintain order, take charge of a volatile and potentially dangerous situation and are (or should be) trained in restraint procedures without resorting to violence.

They are trained in the way you describe Callistemon. It’s possible these armed officers feared losing their weapons, also possible they get less experience at calming potentially violent incidents. My experience over many years was that police officers were highly skilled at calming difficult situations.

The issue I think is that bad apples keep popping up. The GMP and the MET have had a lot of issues to address.
