France Elections. I am an immigrant

Macron said that Notre Dame would be rebuilt in 5 years and they are on track to meet that deadline. The restoration of Notre Dame has been amazing, all those talented architects and craftsmen from across the country. Chapeau!
DH is a chorister, he has sung on several occasions in Chartres Cathedral but never in Notre Dame. I'm hoping to offer him as a gift a concert in the newly restored cathedral one day.

Mine was from TK Maxx ?years ago, with matching coaster. My treat to myself but a bit faded now.
Time for a new one, I think. They are expensive but I'm owed a birthday present.

Jordan Bardella is a presentable young man, I think he talks quite well. He may well encourage votes from younger people. I don't think he has been around long enough to have any real dirt dished on him, yet. Also, Marine LePen isn't daft, she doesn't want anyone who will eclipse her in any way.

Sunday was going to be a three cornered fight in my area but now the NFP candidate with 30,08% of the vote, has stepped down. We can but hope their followers will back Macron. 🤞

I've not seen any on this thread. Only those who are interested in, and receptive, to what Gransnetters across the Channel are reporting. mokryna asked the readership what they thought Macron's and LePen's intentions were, and the responses have been thought-provoking. It isn't a competition who knows the politics better.
Sometimes, how leaders are perceived by those not living in the country can throw a great deal of light on a situation.

By what date do the candidates have to decide if they are going to step down, does anyone know?

I'm reading that as solely her noting that we people who live in the UK are saying that Starmer is dull.

I don't see it in any way criticising us for commenting on French politics.

I was referring to starmer being a preference even if he is dull, as described on this forum by people who live in england.
How on earth did it get so misunderstood?

Nasty cynic that I am, I can’t help thinking how the political shenanigans across the channel might at least quieten that tedious cohort that is always banging on about how everything is so much better in France.

You made me smile, Witzend, (though I might have recognised myself in that category 20 or so years ago!). People bang on about how everything is so much better in France because often they want to justify their decision to having moved there.
I knew English people who had good jobs back home, but in France, they had to resort to working in abattoirs. Or they cleaned gîtes. They would then moan that food was so expensive in France, and that they couldn't afford a ferry trip back home etc. But hey, life is so much better in France! Only if you can afford to live comfortably.

As someone whose mother was French, I love France but I think having family and friends there makes a huge difference. I prefer the UK because of all the cultural and artistic options here.. and I believe it is also less expensive here..
