I want to check the source (s). tricia58 clearly believes what she posts.
I'm really concerned about this aspect of Reform policy. They say in the policy documents abandoning Net Zero climate policies is going to pay for the NHS end of waiting lists.
I'd like to see Farage challenged by a scientist in an interview to see how much he really knows (instead of just repeating that CO2 is good for us)

What is it that attracts racists, Islamaphobes, homophobes and general bigots to Nigel Farage?
(865 Posts)I’ve pinched this question from James O’Brian. And to me it is obvious, - they are fascists - talking about replacing the police with paramilitaries and bringing back the death penalty as well as shoot f….g immigrants has huge echoes of 1930s Germany.
So why would you vote for him?

You need to start reading real news is you really have no idea, there are hundreds of people including the very rich who are making money from all of this
Hundreds (thousands) of people have been making money from fossil fuels and products made from fossil fuels for decades.
tricia58
Do you think we have ever experienced a situation like this, migrants most days coming into this country expecting streets of gold? While the real refugees are languishing in camps and don't get involved with people smugglers
Ah! So you'd be happy if the UK invited real refugees from the camps, where (as you correctly point out) there are millions of people?
There are several regular Reform posters whom I disagree with but I can't imagine them being Climate Change deniers.

It is often people in those industries that are Climate Change deniers.

"Experts say the documents show the fossil fuel industry had intimate involvement in the inception of modern climate science, along with its warnings of the severe harm climate change will wreak, only to then publicly deny this science for decades and fund ongoing efforts to delay action on the climate crisis.
“They contain smoking gun proof that by at least 1954, the fossil fuel industry was on notice about the potential for its products to disrupt Earth’s climate on a scale significant to human civilization,” said Geoffrey Supran,
an expert in historic climate disinformation at the University of Miami.
“These findings are a startling confirmation that big oil has had its finger on the pulse of academic climate science for 70 years – for twice my lifetime –
and a reminder that it continues to do so to this day. They make a mockery of the oil industry’s denial of basic climate science decades later.”
Climate change deniers are just spouting what they want to believe based on zero evidence.
Fossil fuels are still needed, countries in Europe are already beginning to use them again as they realise that wind and sun will never be enough. Why all or nothing why NET ZERO. The climate has always changed, this happened long before industrialisation, geology all over the world proves this, believing this does not make anyone a 'climate denier' in fact the opposite
Climate change deniers aren't actually that important. Whether climate change is 'natural' or man-made, the results are the same so it is sensible for humankind not to make the matter worse by undertaking activities that contribute to global warming.
You do not pour petrol on a burning house
I care more for helping people like this, before May signed the agreement to accept economic migrants as refugees' that is how it was, now we are where we are, with economic migrants trawling the world for the best deal.

Where's your evidence for this?
Most "economic" migrants come to the UK perfectly legally because they can earn more in the UK for doing work which is needed. For decades, people from the UK have worked abroad to earn more money than they could in the UK. What's the difference?

What's wrong with aspiration towards NET ZERO?
We have thousands coming in aided by people smugglers, why aren't they coming legally like the ones you mention. I have no objection to passports and working in other countries

What is wrong with you people? Do you never take any notice of factual information?
One prime reason that these people are coming in on the boats is because there are no safe routes available to them. This has been pointed out time and time again.
Fearful people have always been scared of foreigners, sometimes to the extent the fearful ones want to harm the foreigners.
Sometimes a bad person will stir up these fears in order to get more power for himself.
Why is anyone worrying about Reform? They won’t get more than a handful of seats at best.
I agree Oreo. A lot of fuss about the irrelevant.

They are coming in the boats because they are attempting to force an illegal entry.
How many more times?

Because they are often fleeing war-torn countries and/or persecution. Countries such as Eritrea won't even issue passports.
We have hundreds of thousands coming to the country legally. Why are you so obsessed with the minority, about whose circumstances you appear to have little (or no) direct experience?

How could they arrive legally?

There is nothing illegal in international law about claiming asylum.
How rude 'you people', I could use the same but wouldn't be so rude. There are many opinions, your opinion is not necessarily the right one.
It's not wanting more of the spread of divisive toxic ideologies and fake/false news and magical solutions the USA route in the longer term.

My 'opinion' is based on fact. See *growstuff's posts.
There is nothing 'illegal' about being an asylum seeker or a refugee. The question of 'legality' can only be established once their claims have been processed.
One of our 'British values' is the principle of 'innocent until proved guilty'.

I haven't given an opinion. I've asked questions and given facts.
Since the July 2023 Illegal Immigration Act there is much confusion about these issues.
Conservative plan was to detain all those entering by non safe routes indefinitely until they could be removed to Rwanda. (which could not by now have taken the numbers involved, as it is 52.000 max at any given time.)
It also included no provision for safe routes.
So they stopped processing people allowing a huge build up as they had no plans for deportation back to safe countries
All eggs in basket Rwanda. Far from being a "deterrent".
No attempts to, for example, encourage those waiting to do voluntary work - we've talked about this many times in GN
This article lays it out very clearly indeed

It also gives the important facts about % of immigrants in this category:
"In the year ending June 2023, there were 44,460 people detected arriving by small boats according to government figures.
This means small boat arrivals amount to 3.7% of overall immigration to the UK which was 1.2 million during the same period
