Corbyn could not become leader of the LP unless he were a Labour MP. He has been expelled from the LP so he cannot possibly be elected as a Labour MP, nor could he try for the leadership.

Domestic affairs

I do know that various shadow ministers have been in talks with their respective departments so as to make the transition as smooth as possible.

This is not in order of priority, just off the top of my head.

Reeves is to re-boot the growth and innovation department in the Treasury.

Streeting has been “trial testing” the way to boost appointments in 2-3 hospitals snd both doctors and Streeting are pleased with the result. So I assume that model or similar will be rolled out across the country.

Streeting is also planning to put greater resources towards front line services which includes more GPS with the intention of relieving the ridiculous wait for appointments, which in turn is placing huge pressure on A&E.

The Department for Energy security and net zero - will be charged with beginning plans to set up an investment vehicle known as Great British Energy.

Bring in the ability for the EA to bring criminal charges against water executives. Personally I would like to see water nationalised.

Free breakfast clubs. I would also like to see the end to the capping of child benefit.

Re-nationalise the railways as contracts end.

Can’t think of anything more at the moment.

I think that the economy needs a separate post tbh.

Nope. I'm quite happy to sit back and see what the tory voting fantasists and hysterics have invented about the LP plans.

It's nothing new, they're saying what has been said in the run up to elections many a time before.

I have already expressed my own doubts about the LP economic policy on other threads. As to the rest, I'm happy to wait and see.

Whatever they do it cannot be worse for the country than the havoc that the tories have wreaked over the past 14 years.

Looking back more than 14 years ago when Labour were in power Nationally and locally they built 3 brand new super duper Schools to cater for all secondary pupils in the County. Unfortunately, they did not pay up front for the buildings. Instead they rent them from a finance company, and are not allowed to do essential or minor repairs or renovations themselves but instead must notify the "Landlords" who may take weeks to respond -EG a chemical spill in a Science lab which the School technician could have cleared up immediately resulted in the lab being closed for weeks awaiting their attention. Technically, School staff are not allowed to even change a lightbulb.
The "rental" of the 3 Schools has risen every year and now exceeds the Education budget, to the detriment of the primary schools and special schools.

Typical Labour "Jam today and penury tomorrow". The County now has an SNP Council, MSP and MP who are blamed for the current state of affairs which was none of their doing.

Starmer having to make a decision?

OK so assuming Labour become the government on 5 thJuly.

Foreign Affairs

Starmer has a meeting with NATO partners on 9th I think in Washington. Here presumably the two world flashpoints will be discussed.

Starmer will have the opportunity to speak to European NATO members and discuss the threat from Russia.

18th July

Starmer will be hosting European leaders at Blenheim (EPC).

This is where shared issues will discussed like migration, defence. Etc.

I bet also that the potential of another Trump presidency will be discussed and the implications for Europe particularly in relation to Russia and the Middle East.

Israel/Gaza - I think that Starmer will be pressed to make a decision relating to legal advice over Israel’s conduct in Gaza.

It seems an age ago but I do remember when we last had a labour government and there's little doubt that services were better and taxes were lower overall. I can't remember much sleaze either. It was after the Tories imploded the last time with different factions fighting amongst themselves instead of running the country. They sold off council houses, sold us shares in services we already owned allowing individuals to make massive profits instead of improving infrastructure and decimated whole areas of the country creating even more need for levelling up. Tbh the mood in the country was very much like it is now! Definitely time to give labour another chance to improve things.

The more I find out about Labours intentions, the more I disbelieve them.

They will of course have to scrape and bow to their Union paymasters. More strikes, then big pay rises.

They will put up all the other taxes other than those they have constantly assured us they will not (VAT, NI, PAYE)

As for immigration, other than we will talk to France which is what the Conservatives have been doing for years along with giving them millions to stop the boats which hasn’t worked, I have no idea why they think their talks will work 🤷‍♀️

I am still undecided, but honestly I am slowly veering to better the devil you know. I could not vote Reform, Greens, Lib Dem’s or Labour, so its Conservatives (with fingers crossed they have learnt a lesson) of an Independent.

The one certainty is that I will vote.

I see just doom and gloom too. Labour prefers helping people from other countries rather than their own. Immigration of all sorts will increase greatly.

Labour dislikes people who have made themselves wealthy which is madness as most of them have done it through sheer hard work. They dislike people who can now afford to send their kids to private schools or buy a second home.

They have also encouraged a generation of people who rely on state handouts and benefits. They assume people are not capable of rearing their own children so throw money at them. instead. They prefer keeping people under their thumb rather than encouraging working hard and saving.

There will be large pay rises to settle the train drivers and junior doctors strikes, curiously similar outlook there, and the bus drivers and nurses will pick up the slack. Teachers will be busy potty-training and cleaning teeth, teaching table manners and opening even more breakfast and after school clubs. The amazing Surestart will recommence and solve all behavioural problems until the mummies realise that they are actually expected to take an active role in responsibility for their offspring.
The unions are pressing for a four-day week, (but obviously not for all,) but most interesting of all is who will be running the country? Who is waiting to emerge from the shadows and take control?

An improvement might even be that they are boring, so we don't get all the shenanigans.
