Incredibly sad, and what really puzzles me is why the hell can anyone sell machetes, zombie knives etc, online or in a shop, in the UK? There must be a way to stop this at source, and I'm not talking age restriction. Why would anyone in this country need one of these, the sale must be banned, and if found to be selling, the vendors should be subject to a custodial sentence.

Two twelve year olds murder nineteen year old with machete
(173 Posts)I’ve just read a piece in The Guardian (sorry I’m rubbish at links) and it is about the murder of a young man who came to Britain from Anguilla in the Caribbean, to seek treatment for his cataracts. He was brutally murdered by two children, twelve years old, using a machete. They stabbed him though the heart and viciously punched him and stamped on his head. These two boys have apparently become two of the youngest convicted murderers in the UK after jurers unanimously found them guilty on Monday.
It appears that this young man suffered an appallingly violent attack, and I felt so saddened and overcome when reading how he died. Such a horrible death inflicted by children, who are too young to be named.
They will be sentenced in July and I really hope they will receive an appropriate sentence, because such young children committing such a violent attack are surely not going to be safe for release for a very long time.

This week in my county a 25 yr old man was stabbed and died 4 under 16yr olds have been arrested.
This is how bad it is in my city, Southend.
What the article doesn’t tell you is that most of the drug/ violent crime is committed by people arriving by train. That would be the 2 main lines to london.

We are all appalled at this crime by two 12 year olds, but I would like to ask something. Please don't take this amiss in any way, I am genuinly interested. What can we as a group do about this? I'm sure millions of other women and men feel the same, but does the public DO anything? If we all made thundering nuisances of ourselves to the government could we not for a start get these weapons banned? I'm 86 now and look back to my childhood, my childrens childhood, and shudder to think what my great-grandson's childhood will be like if we don't make a stand somewhere. Its all very well to say someone ie the government, the police etc should do something, but surely we, the people have the power if we chose to exert it?
This monument is coming to my city in July.
If anyone really wants to do something search out local groups and support financially. They will help to make a change.
Don’t rely on any government to fix this problem.
It’s only people who have been where these kids are who understand how to fix them.

Sorry I didn’t mean I think they should be killed, I followed a post which supported a death penalty for these children
Sorry for any confusion Annie. I just mean generally what a dreadful " suggestion"
Ah, I understand Anniebach.
So awful for that poor young man.
What traumatic lives and experiences those children must have been through themselves to bring them to a place where they could do such an atrocious thing.
Violence begets violence.

For heavens sake? Kill 12 year olds. Get a grip.
No to the death penalty. Horrified that anyone could see the state killing two 12 year boys as in any way acceptable.
Dickens mentioned earlier that children seem to fe getting involved in crime at earlier ages. I don’t think it was your name that had me thinking about Oliver Twist and the ‘merry band’ of robbers run by Fagin and Sykes. We have growing gaps between those of us who are ok/even if just managing and a group in our society who don’t abide by the law, or the societal norms that hold us together.
I’m not despondent because the majority live with kindness and care. Call me an old leftie, I’ll take that but we need to invest in early years. We need to reinstate good quality family centres and youth work.
Drugs/alcohol underpin so much mental health and crime. The kids who are sexuality exploited, used in county lines are children. They re exploited by adults who may have their own difficulties but they’re responsible and should be prosecuted
At which point - CJS /hmp need reform. We send too many people to prison. Alternatives to custody needed
Nooooo!! 😱
Two 12 year olds killed , answer kill them
I agree tickingbird, however horrific we cant be putting 12 year olds to death.

I wish the death penalty was available in this case
I don’t agree with the death penalty and the thought of putting these two to death, no matter how abhorrent their crime, is horrific.

I'm sure we all agree with that.
There are lots of groups working locally to reduce knife crime, often headed by mothers of victims. But yes they should all get together and lobby the government, advertise what they're doing and lobby support nationally.
We need change. Children need educating that these things kill. It is not a game.
I do worry what the future will become and these items of aggression need banning.
This is not an easy world to live in now I personally have lost trust in everything and everyone.
Maybe, MN, we can. Think about how government, large businesses and other organisations, like book festivals and charities are caving in to crazy activists like JSO, vegetarians, pro-Palestinians and the rest. Who of us has the stamina or the knowledge to start up something?

I feel that the answer lies in parenting and I feel desperately sorry for parents and children these days. With both parents nowadays finding it necessary to work for financial reasons, tiny babies are being cared for by nurseries and strangers (and of course grandparents) who cannot possibly love the child in the same way as a parent, and parents are coming home from work tired and therefore struggling to cope with children, No wonder we are in a bad place. I think that 1 or other parent should be at home until the child is school age (5) at least. Instead of the government funding nurseries they need to find some way of making it more beneficial for mum (or dad) to be a stay at home parent.
I agree.
Naming them will name any siblings , so wrong
What purpose does naming them serve? How does it help.
I understand there is talk of naming them, there was an article on Apple News that a reporter had spoken to people in the town where it happened and it’s alleged they terrorised the neighbourhood, breaking into houses, cars and other terrible things.
