I agree, I’m making a huge assumption that the young Somalian males were coming for economic reasons, but I could be mistaken.

Also I think the family living in Sweden were being deported, at pretty short notice, because a Sweden deemed the area they came from in Iraq was deemed “safe”

I have a 7y.o. beautiful granddaughter and this tragedy breaks my heart into pieces. These Channel crossings, dangerous always, are going to become more so this summer unless stopped. Violent people are making this situation toxic. More deaths will follow unless these human traffickers are identified and stopped from offering this evil trade.

All single young men looking for work. He then walked back to London and disappeared into Little Italy. Would the fact that he looked like us have outweighed the fact that he couldn't speak English?^

Good post Deedaa. Your last sentence is particularly pertinent. I don’t remember lots of threads on GN criticising Ukrainians fleeing the war when they were (quite rightly) given refuge in the UK. But then they look like ‘us’ don’t they.

They were actually inthe middle of a war, and very much in Europe, and came to the nearest countries. Wonder why some of these from the middle east, or Africa don't do the same.

You forget to say they are housed, free schooling, NHS dental, more than the locals get, no rent or other bills are paid by them. Yes asylum seekers get that, despite another commentator saying they don't.
