Yes silverlining48 - it was The Rest is Politics so Campbell and Stewart. Both asked her some difficult questions which she responded to articulately and intelligently.

It makes me sad to read so many of these posts where people have made up their mind already that someone is a cheat when none of us know all the facts.

Only the police will be given all the facts and will be best placed therefore to judge whether Angela Rayner has deliberately sought to evade capital gains tax or deliberately given false information to the Electoral Registration Officer.

But I suppose that is human nature and only to be expected that many of those on here who simply don't like Angela Rayner or don't like the Labour Party will jump to the conclusion that she is "guilty " and those who like her or who always vote Labour are prepared to wait and see.

There are MPs who have been investigated for misdemeanours and only stood down when it has been forced upon them - Peter Bone being one example. At least Angela Rayner has said she will stand down if she has been found to have committed a criminal offence, although it is too late fro her to be prosecuted over tax evasion or giving false information for the electoral roll.

Havnt listened to it but surely Rory Stewart, who is or was, a Conservative and a candidate for Tory leadership , was also taking part in this. It wasn’t just Alistair Campbell and Angela Rayner having a cosy chat.

If Angela took advice and a mistake was made then why try to keep up a pretence?

For goodness' sake, why doesn't she just say she followed the advice she was given, if a mistake was made she is sorry and she will pay any CGT that is due.
"Mea culpa! I will learn by my mistakes."
Fair enough, no-one's perfect.
Instead the hole keeps getting deeper.

This was a one hour unscripted Q&A with no prior warning of the questions. Rayner speaks from the heart, doesn’t underestimate the task ahead of a future Labour government but knows what fundamental changes are needed, the early interventions that are required to tackle poverty and what it can lead to. She’s very honest about the support she received e.g. through educational second chances and the SureStart programme when she became a parent. Her route into politics is interesting. Through care work to becoming a union rep to being asked to go to Conference just to fill a quota that required sending one young person from each branch and so on.

The interview was three months ago. Campbell asks her (59 minutes in) about how she’s going to cope with the pre-election nastiness that’s bound to come “from a desperate Tory party and its media supporters” (his words). She responds: They’ve been slow cooking me for a while - which she hopes will make her stronger in the long run. This controversy is them turning up the temperature.

After the interview ends, Campbell and Stewart discuss how she did. Both were clearly impressed.

Campbell seems to be trying to persuade Stewart to re-enter main stream politics as a Labour candidate. I would love to see that. He’s passionate about the justice system and prison reform. Minister of State for Prisons, Parole and Probation?

Oh my goodness …. Where to start on this one!! 🤪 I haven’t even watched it because I just saw the name Alistair Campbell and knew exactly what it would be like. Tony Blair’s advisor/spin doctor who is Labour through and through and never listens to people, just talks over them if they are from another party. Obviously as he is interviewing AR he will behave himself and organise it so she will come out of it as white as the driven snow.

I saw,her on tv the other morning, and she said she is perfectly happy to be checked out, because she has done nothing at all wrong.

She did look a,bit shifty, perhaps, though.

Several different neighbours state her brother lived there not her. I can't see why they would all be lying.

Raynor herself on SM put a photo of the house her husband owns and a caption ' good to be home' with a photo of her and one of her DC there.

Now the latest a former employee of hers has made a police statement that he visited her at her home. It was the home owned by her husband.

A lot of smoke if no fire.

No comment. 🤔

I've been following through this topic and wondering why it is perfectly OK for posters to say that they 'despise' someone, but the use of terms which express that despite is condemned?

It seems to me that the intent behind the words is exactly the same.

If Ms Rayner has done something wrong, and I hope she hasn’t, she has stated publicly and quite clearly, she will stand down.

She’s been investigated for this once before and the police took it no further, they are now “re-investigating” due to “further evidence and complaints”

Tory press up to their old tricks. AR will talk to the police rather than the Tory rags which is as it should be.
Whatever senior members of the LP do, (or don't do) they will not come close to the corruption, incompetence, immorality, lawlessness and just plain nastiness of their counterparts on the Tory front benches.

I’m not fussed about the speculation about what she did or didn’t do regarding selling houses, it’s being looked into what more is there to say?
I also think good for her for doing so well in life.
I do worry a bit tho if she is really ready for such a senior position as deputy PM as she’s only been an MP for ten years.
