It was the same with Peter Sutcliffe. They even had an artists impression based on the evidence of one of his victims who miraculously survived, but because they wrongly assumed she was a sex worker, it wasn't taken seriously.

It looked just like him too.

I watched a programme with Emilia Fox last night about two girls who were murdered 40 years ago. One was a “nice” girl and one called a prostitute. She was a young mum and it seems highly likely that she was actually murdered by a man who had been an adult care worker who knew her. It was shocking for the family that she was considered differently at the time because they thought (wrongly) that she was a sex worker. It was eye opening to watch. I do hope things are different now.

Well yes if we cheer on men paying for consent then it will always end badly for women.

Yet another example of the historic disregard for women! Beggers belief this attitude is still thriving.

I watched a programme about this on BBC Scotland last night. It was shocking. It seems that it wasn't that the police were protecting him, but that senior officers were adamant the crime was committed by a Turkish man and weren't going to let a little thing like evidence get in the way of prosecuting (persecuting?) him.

Yes it really as a shocking case of multiple police failures in the Scottish Force.

It apparently took the BBC and a tenacious journalist to persuade Police Scotland to take an alternative view (finally). It has been mooted by some that the Polis protected this awful man in some way. But I couldn’t possibly comment on the fact that whenever he was called in to be interviewed he would wear a Rangers shirt. Shocking.

Police forces across the UK have a very bad history when it comes to young women.and girls.They didn't look past what they did to who they were.The girls in Rochdale were termed young prostitutes when clearly they were abused children and poor Emma with all her problems was seen as the dregs of society instead of a young women who needed help.I believe it was common practice among many Police personnel to treat Prostitutes as if they weren't people who count .
When WOMEN were picked up for prostitution the "men" who were using them walked away while the girls often got put in a cell.I never understood the reasoning for that .
If there weren't men using them there would be no service for them to provide.When I worked in a city we witnessed a young woman being treated badly by a lorry driver in the lane opposite,my friend told me to call the police and ran own to distract the driver .The young woman was accused of soliciting and he walked away from the scene .That was over 40 years ago and I dont think things have really changed.Men dont ever believe that men are guilty,its always the womans fault

Hi Sar it’s not only the police who never learn, I just hope the post office gets it’s just desserts after the horrible way these poor folks have been treated, will lessons have been learned there do you think?
