It is a good thing that William is loosening the royal protocol shackles that prevented his grandmother from publicly expressing an opinion. He will be an interesting king when the time comes.

Yes and as his wife is involved in causes and charities supporting babies and young children there would be some only to eager to criticise him if he didn’t comment.

Personally I applaud him! We need to move forward and find a new place for a modernised monarchy. We live in a democracy and he’s just as “entitled” as the rest of us to both have and express his opinions. I don’t believe the Queen would have been horrified, she may not have expressed her opinions so openly but she also recognised the need for change

He did not say’all fighting should stop’ but ‘I like many others
want to see an end to the fighting as soon as possible’

I really don’t think he is just as entitled as any of us to express his opinions.
Having said that, I know he was speaking in a carefully scripted way, so see nothing wrong with what he said.
He will always have to be careful what he says in public, both now and in the future as King.

If Farage had been ignored the country would be in a better

That is stupid and ignorant on so many levels.

I don’t really care what Nigel Farage says, because he is entitled to his opinions and to express them, just like everyone else.
However I don’t think royals should speak out about political issues. It is important if the monarchy is to survive that it remains impartial in all areas.
They are of course, entitled to their opinions, it’s just that they shouldn’t express them publicly. Monarchy brings many rights and privileges to members of the royal family but it also brings responsibilities.

When he becomes Monarch, perhaps.

But I don't think this speech was in any way too controversial. He is not Head of State.

I think a better way for the Monarchy to go would be to distance themselves from such events as the BAFTAS and other showbizzy events.
Good works, charity events, yes, but showbiz - no.

That would have been difficult before he was born.

I don’t think it is just the king who needs to refrain from offering opinions, I think those near the throne, or who are Counsellors of State should refrain too. Can anyone imagine Princess Anne expressing an opinion publicly about anything other than a horse or an annoying journalist!

Mr Farage is a dangerous clown. He should stick to just being a clown. And the rest of us regard him as such.

Charles made a comment on tv just after the Queen died saying that, as the monarch, he knew he would no longer be able to express his own opinions but that he was sure that William would follow his example as Prince of Wales.

As long as he doesn’t contradict the U.K. govt or policies, he’s as entitled to express his opinion IMO.

Farage has become a windbag who likes the sound of his own voice. To remain a celebrity he needs to remain in the news.
