What concerns me, only Harry has made an announcement re his fathers illness

I admire the King for being open about the prostate treatment and now for saying he is being treated for an unnamed cancer. He’s a new type of monarch. I hope the treatment isn’t too gruelling and is effective. Many of us here have experienced cancer in our families. Awful disease who ever yiu are.

Harry - this surely isn’t the time to snipe. I read the King told his children and siblings personally. It’s reported that Harry will travel to the UK to see his father. Can’t we all wish them well.

Can we leave Harry out of this, it seems to me he is a son making the effort to see his Father has had some bad health news.

Veejay Why is Harry “such a hypocrite”? He’s clearly an angry and quite unstable man but always made it clear he loved his grandparents and parents, I hope this acts as a catalyst for all of them to heal! Estranged families can be so awful

I have no idea what ails the King and it is his private business of course. I wish him well and am glad he’s receiving treatment right away. None of us actually know how long he has waited for diagnosis and treatment as it takes time to develop the various tests and get to a diagnosis. With my hubby (different cancer) it took from early October until the day before Xmas eve to get the full diagnosis. Tests, biopsies, MRI, nuclear scan etc etc. it’s the reality for many. I always assumed diagnosis was a more or less instant thing, it isn’t. Anyway, good luck King Charles.

I wish him all the best. As he was diagnosed before he had any symtoms he has the best chance of a cure, and that will be such a positive message if he is, as I'm optimistic he will be, still ruling in 20 years' time.

This open approach is far more dignified than past practices; was it King George Vth where it was announced "the King's life is drawing peacefully to a close" when he had in fact died hours earlier, but the Press weren't ready so they bluffed it? Such a charade.

I'm glad Harry is coming over to see him, can't imagine why people would criticize that.

I am hoping this will bring the family back together. I also hope the treatment is not taxing and is successful. As a surviving cancer patient I know how the diagnosis affects you and the whole family.

I wish Charles well. Very difficult having a cancer diagnosis that is so public.

On a less serious note, whilst I wish the King a very swift and full recovery, it is sad that we do still have cancers and life ending conditions still missed til it’s too late, especially those whose lives have been taken far too soon.

My heart goes out to anyone, especially our great gransnetters, who may have lost a daughter/sister/brother/son because their initial diagnosis’ were missed. RIP all of them

Having said that, I still have the utmost respect for our NHS, which while it has failed some, has saved many.

I think King Charles has done the right thing,and I really hope he recovers well from it whatever the cancer turns out to be

CoolCoco, it does seem repetitive when we’re sitting there and yes, I do switch over or mute, but tonight, I saw the first announcement. A little while later DH came I and saw it for the first time and then my DGD came in and asked what it was all about so she watched a further repetition including the info from the palace.
Will I watch at 10o’clock? Probably I’ll have the news on, but if it irritates me I’ll just mute it.
I hope all goes well for Charles and for the rest of his family. We’ve been through cancer twice now.

Yes I switched off the news as it was just repeating the same old stuff. It was the BBC I said were toadying - endlessly speculating and telling us what we all know anyway - who is next in line to the throne fgs. I wasn’t being rude about PC’s illness, I’m sure he will get top notch treatment, I just said we shouldn’t have all this endless repetition. I did want to watch the news, but there was only one story on a loop. Thank goodness for Netflix.

Why do you feel the need to keep up your own endless repetition?

I’m saddened to hear the news about the King’s health. I so hope things go well for him. My sympathies also with Camilla and William who will have to do extra, all the while looking and sounding upbeat and positive whilst no doubt feeling sick with worry.

I’m new to gransnet. This will be my first and last post as I’ve been reading the forums for the last few days and don’t like the tone many of the comments take and I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s definitely not the site for me.
Coolcoco, I’m sad to see that you are getting barbed and sarcastic comments for your post. Everyone is entitled to their own opinions which others may or may not agree with and healthy debate with one another is great, we can all learn from debate. I don’t feel that this is a discussion, it’s more like playground bullies ganging up against someone they don’t like or agree with. I’ve noticed this trend on several threads. My mum used to say ‘if you have nothing nice to say then say nothing at all’. Some people on here would be wise to heed that advice.

Suggest you take your own Mum's advice.

Am very sorry for the King, the diagnosis must have come as a horrible shock, even if his doctors are optimistic.

Am also very sorry for poor Prince William at the moment, with his wife recovering from major surgery and his father now turning out to be more seriously ill than was thought.

I feel so sorry for him. For all his wealth and position he has not really had a charmed life.

He had to wait nearly his entire life to become King, his first marriage was a disaster, his second son has turned out badly and his childhood and education were horrible. That image of him waiting in line to shake his mother’s hand after she had been away for months is still haunting.

I wish him well.

I am sorry to hear this as I think that Charles is shaping up to be a good monarch. I hope that he makes a full recovery.

I'm shocked and saddened at this news. A cancer diagnosis is what everyone fears and personal wealth and position make no difference. I hope and pray that he will make a full recovery.

I don’t think this should be headline news. I don’t wish to know. Now we’ll have loads of speculation about his treatment etc. Should be private.

You need to read his official statement. He wanted to be public about his diagnosis to raise awareness in regards to cancer.
