My reading of this is that any moves by Braverman, Jenrick and their ilk to move the UK outside international law would thus negate the whole treaty, and has thus cut the ground from under them.

Clever, if Sunak had anything to do with it.

I don’t think it will work, because I think the far-right ideologies are too far gone for rational behaviour, mind.

(Plus, I’m not sure Sunak is smart enough to have had any thing to do with this).

If we get another PM won’t they get the lifetime protection, PM pension etc etc? How many short term failed/disgraced PM’s is this country having to pay for? Plus they’ll all lining up at the Cenotaph every year. There won’t be room for all of them….(this is getting farcical…)

We know at least £140 million for nothing so far plus expenses on getting the whole sorry policy up and (not) running.

I note that this intake by Rwanda is up to 100 asylum seekers😄😄. Hardly make a pinprick in Bravermans “hoards” of illegals will it.

The latest plan is for Rwanda to keep “successful” applicants/refugees, and to send the unsuccessful ones back to the U.K. alongside (an unspecified number) Rwanda asylum seekers.

I was struck by Braverman’s speech yesterday at the way she used language so frequently used by unscrupulous politicians, and which is used effectively to convince the listener of an apparent existential problem where none exists.

So her “hoards”of illegal immigrants amounted to just a tad over 44000 that arrived in small boats this year. In total 55320 so called “illegals” arrived in the U.K. seeking asylum.

These numbers should be pigeon feed to a country like the U.K. and the way they are dealt with. But like just about everything else the Tory government’s incompetence has assured that the whole process has broken down and got totally out of hand.

We are now spending £7million a day to house these people. Just think how many HO civil servants could be employed to expedite matters! But no - for whatever reason the Home Office has chosen not to take this matter in hand, and has presided over a situation over which they have lost any rational control.

They wouldn’t be cumulative if the Tories had a handle on it from the beginning, but they are so utterly incompetent they let the situation get out of hand and now are like beached whales wondering how to get back into the water.

I am fairly sure it wont be the Tories who pose any threat, they tend to implode after an election defeat, they seem to have imploded prior to an election defeat this time but that's by the by. The threat will come from elsewhere, possibly the reform party.

It's been successful in other countries in drawing people together politically that would normally be opposed. My concern is too many tory MPs will not seek re-selection leaving local conservative parties free to select right wing candidates. Just look at who the membership wanted as leader, they'd probably go for SB if they had to vote again. A two party system like ours relies on having strong opposition that keeps the govt on its toes. The thought of a Govt led by Suella fills me with absolute horror. She may say what some people think but that doesn't make what she says "right", "just", humane" or worthy of a British parliament.

I saw a poll which claimed that Badenoch is the most popular Conservative MP. The thought of that waste of space becoming leader of the Conservative Party, if anything, fill me with even more horror.

Which immigrants are illegal?

Just because she says what some people think ,it doesn't make it right.
I believe her main driver is her ambition to be Tory Leader and she will say anything that may give give her support.Another disaster waiting to happen.
