Big Pharma is about big profits. Drugs developed with taxpayers' money should not be sold at excessive profit margins and pharma companies should be required to refund the taxpayers out of excess profits.

Nor me. My DH had every vaccine offered...he had all the Covid ones, the Pneumonia one, this and that.

I had nothing much.

He died, in April, of Covid and Pneumonia , so that worked well. 🙁

I'll let nature take its course now, thanks, despite the blitz of texts I'm getting.🙄

Oops I missed out that apparently Mr. Sunak has said they should be £80, without any evidence of this.

The most effective shingles vaccine is over £200 to purchase privately.

I have just read the article in The Guardian regarding this, at the moment Covid boosters are only available through the NHS. There is some speculation that they may be available to purchase privately by Autumn 2024 in the U.K.

There is no speculation on the U.K. price just the prices for USA .

I will reserve any judgement until it becomes clear when and how much the U.K. private sector will charge.

GG13. We appear to be talking here about a product costing £18 to produce, with its R& D partly funded by the state, possibly being sold for £80.

That is not 'profit', it's extortion.

Do you seriously expect to make 300% profit on everything you sell?

It has not yet been announced.

I read in the guardian that there are no plans for it to be offered privately yet, but that might change I suppose.

Both my husband and I have received text messages from our local health centre, regarding flu and covid vaccinations.

We are now booked in for both later this month.

Covid vacination has been brought forward the most vunerable from 11th September and others from the 18th September so I certainly don't think the government are ignoring it.
Not sure if I will get one as not 65 until January next year but flu vacination already offered and booked so may well get offered Covid. Not in to much of a hurry had my last vacination last December so annually seems perfectly acceptable

Our GP isn’t doing covid jabs at all. DH phoned them up a few days ago and the answerphone message just said there are no available appointments today. I can’t believe the level of service we now get ( or don’t get). When I worked there we provided such a caring service: how can things have changed so much in ten years?

Both DH and I had a text message from GP surgery on the 1st of September inviting us to book flu and Covid booster on the same day.

I declined the option of having both at the same time, and was told that was the only option and that I couldn’t book two separate slots

I have made an appointment at GP’s for Covid booster at the end of September and an appointment at our local Boots Pharmacy for flu jab mid October.

Said on the BBC website that covid cases are rising and there have been outbreaks in care homes. But we still can’t book an appointment for our booster and Boots have been given no information as to whether or not they will be offering covid jabs alongside the flu one this year. Anyone would think the government are trying to pretend covid doesn’t exist, just as they did at the start of the pandemic. Or am I being cynical ?

The real problem is that given the cost of living (and assuming that it will be held out for sale - which it isn’t at the moment) then those feeling the pinch will be hard pushed to buy a jab. Flu jabs can be purchased for much less and those wishing to avoid being off sick can purchase a flu jab each year, but the covid jab will be much more expensive and out of reach of many less well paid people who are the most likely to be on zero rated contracts etc with all that implies.
