I think it's a measure of desperation that anyone, child or adult, would get into a rubber dinghy and risk their life
I agree. What I don't understand is how a nine year old does that totally "unaccompanied". I thought people were paying to board the dinghies.
Perhaps I have misunderstood and the so-called people smugglers one hears about are really putting people on dinghies out of the goodness of their hearts and not for profit. One wonders then how it is all funded. Dinghies and life-jackets don't some cheap.
None of what I've said on this thread means I'm anti-refugee or anti-asylum-seeker. I just want to know more about why Jenrick has ordered the murals to be painted over, why the murals were put there and by whom and with what permissions, etc, etc, in the first place. If it turns out Jenrick has said what he has said and ordered what he has ordered because he is a complete nasty bastard, so be it. I'm just not convinced yet. Jenrick has not entered my consciousness before this story burst into [some of] the public frame. I don't think the nastiness of his decision is apparent just from the emotional reactions that I have seen on this thread.
I await a more in-depth analysis from non-click-bait journalism.
