I really didn’t want to get involved in this thread, so much misinformation, ignorance and prejudice, but I can’t keep quiet any longer. There are a number of claims being made here which appear to have been copied from unreliable websites. You are all entitled to your own opinions but you should be prepared to back it up with verifiable facts.

So, Sex 101. (Note: sex, not ‘gender’).

Humans have 2 sexes, Male and Female.

Sex is immutable. A man cannot become a woman and a woman cannot become a man.

A human’s sex is determined at conception. Each human receives an X chromosome from the mother and an X or a Y chromosome from the father. If you have XX you’re female, if XY you’re male. Every cell in your body carries your sex.

There are some very rare outlier conditions where a human has an extra chromosome, often lumped under the heading of Intersex. These humans are still either male or female.

Blossoming I've been banging that drum for as long as I've been on these threads. Nobody has yet provided me with evidence of a third, fourth or more gamete. The gametes you are designed to produce (even if a malfunction of your body prevents this) are what decide what sex you are. There are two sexes, there aren't halfway houses where you're neither male nor female despite the best efforts of 'some posters'.

This is my thoughts, nothing I've read but it makes sense to me a brain can be male or female because if we look, especially at the animal kingdom, there are male and female behaviours.

Behaviours like fighting or moving in certain ways to attract a mate aren't driven by sex organs, they are driven by the brain itself

So the simple fact that these gene variants exist and the fact that those gene variants correspond directly to the brain developing to enable male or femal behaviours...

You don't get to choose your biological sex. That is determined for you by your chromosome make-up at the moment of conception. What you do get to choose is whether or not you live your life in either a male or a female gender style. If you're a biological male and want to adopt the persona of a woman, that doesn't make you a biological female, and it certainly doesn't give you the right to "access all areas" which are reserved for biological females. All you have done is to exercise your freedom, at least in this country, to make a lifestyle choice. Essentially, this is all that Kathleen Stock is saying.

When a baby is born, it's sex is determined by whether it has a penis or not.

When that child is an adult, they may choose to live as another gender, but that needs to be their choice, when they are mature enough, and after enough unbiased counselling, to make that choice.

Parents inflicting their choices, as to what gender that child will be reared as, on a baby, is not appropriate.

It feels as though some are trying to reinvent the wheel.🙄

Er the differences between Male and female brains are minimal and not to do with how we move.

Basically I think that is all most of us are saying NanaDana.

Other than that I don't think anyone's trying to invalidate or disrespect trans women's lifestyle choices, but certain posters will insist that we're part of the 'Gender-Critical' group - or are transphobic, in spite of this.

I'm sure that, like me, those of us who've experienced the heady days of the 60s and early 70s, those of us who knocked around in 'gangs' or groups going to folk clubs / jazz clubs / pubs / late-night coffee bars in Soho, etc, mixed with others in their gang who were lesbian, bi, and those who were obviously gender-fluid... this was all part of that era where we threw off the stereotypical constraints of the late 40s and 50s. It's nothing new, many of us were rubbing shoulders with trans gender folk before all the labelling took hold. They were our friends, our 'gang' mates.

Women just want their safe-spaces to be - for women and girls, and don't want to continually have to justify the need which leads to accusations of phobia and discrimination, when it's nothing of the kind. It gets so tedious.

Stock was forced out of her job at Sussex University and that University should be ashamed. Academic debate is essential and free speech must be protected. If the Army Staff College could invite Bruce Kent of CND for a debate I don't see why the Oxford Union Society should be vilified for inviting Stock. I imagine most of those protesting have never read her book.

And as people have also said before, several times, that is not the point.

When it was not ok for bearded balding people with dresses to be in changing rooms, it would only be transwomen who blended in who would be there. As they didn't bother anyone and weren't making some sort of power point by proving that women have nowhere to call our own, nobody cared. Since the trans lobby took hold, however, that is no longer the case, and just as men will deliberately gatecrash women's events and join female sports teams, there are those who enjoy scaring women (and worse) by being conspicuously around where women and girls are vulnerable.

Yes. He is getting worse, isn't he? I used to love him years ago, and went to see him on his last tour, having got the ticket as a present years before - the tour was postponed because of Covid. Instead of the 'man of the people' I remembered, he was a rank misogynist and deeply, deeply unpleasant.

It's not even as if it's original, men telling lesbians they cant be women.

But in the past the number of men who would go into a womens toilet or changing room were very low indeed. If visibly male they would be herded out, they would also have been afraid of public shaming and disgrace if discovered. It is highly improbable that a sexual predator would prowl ladies loos or changing rooms waiting for a chance to attack anyone.

Things have now changed. It is now accepted that men can go anywhere, as long as they say they are women, and, as we have discovered, it hasn't taken long for those who are sexual predators to make the most ofthe opportunity.

But at the same time as we do now talk about women being sexually assaulted and the men are roundly condemned and imprisoned when caught, there seems also to be an implicit acceptance that all men are inherently sexual predators. and I think this has led to a growth in lower level assaults, by men who would describe themselves as giving way to their natural impulses.
