Oh well
This amount of women couldn't stay in the same exact topic for several minutes let alone several days
No regrets

Oreo thank you
This thread is really about the press following H and M in New York but fast went into a poster insulting other posters and having loads of posts deleted as a result, then became about you guessed it, racism trans issues and accusations of women hating other women.Crazy stuff🤪
Now about witches😂
MM isn’t disliked cos she’s mixed race or a strong woman she’s disliked for many other reasons too numerous to mention.
Harry is equally if not more disliked for betraying his family, and making money out of it into the bargain.

It’s nothing to do with her being a woman Glorianny. It’s to do with speaking total nonsense.
I suspect you haven’t studied the sixteenth and seventeenth century witch trials in great depth. I have.
Well in that case I would have expected you to pick me up on the inaccuracy about burning witches. In England they were hanged. (and you have no idea what I have or haven't studied)
Let's face it
None of us is everyone's cup of tea
I'm well liked most places and widely unpopular on gransnet
Can any of us really imagine having that level of nasty directed at us? The most confident person in the world would buckle
I think the nastiness towards Meghan is probably unprecedented, but then we weren't around in the days of Wallis Simpson to compare it.
And there was no social media then to fuel it.
I often disagree with Violet but I agree with her view that women blaming is endemic. Meghan M won’t be everyone’d favourite American but the level of nasty criticism directed to her is unusual
Look at the rape thread, you will find victim blaming
But I don't want to. It has no revelation to what is being discussed here for me.
Go to any mother group
Working mums are best! No! Stay at home mums are best!
Breastfeeding is best! No bottle feeding is best!
Baby led weaning is best! No puree food is best!
It's literally everywhere and thoroughly exhausting
Women blaming women is a society wide issue
Yes Meghan gets more negativity than Harry (she is the DIL of our king)
Look at the rape thread, you will find victim blaming
Husband had an affair? Much more anger at the woman is common
We live in a toxic woman blaming culture by other women
In the interests of clarity and to avoid confusion, I have reverted back to my usual name (sorry, long story).
Anyway, I think the majority posters on here, me especially, are able to put aside feminism, racism, and trans-ism (sp) etc and discuss the couple without wishing to make these issues the subject of every M & H thread.
No idea about the DiL comment. ???
Lol I used the word I meant to use and you have wrongly corrected me
It's a pretty natural and observable phenomena
Thanks Foxy. I didn’t like to say …
VioletSky
It's a society wide phenomena
Sigh!
PhenomENON
Really? No problem with my daughter in law. But she doesn’t spout unintelligible rubbish.
Megan hasn’t got a daughter in law
It's a society wide phenomena
The DIL’s fault???
Yeah yeah
It's *always" the DILs fault
It's literally everywhere and completely unmissable

I don't see it as being related to feminism because the regulars on these threads are just as nasty about Prince Harry as they are about Meghan Markle.

Glorianny
I think much on this thread is a vivid illustration of how superficial some people's feminism really is. If a woman speaks out, criticises the RF or dares to have ambition she's fair game. We haven't really moved that far away from burning witches.
No! Just because a person believes in feminism, it doesn’t mean that they have to believe everything another woman says, or approve of every action another woman makes. I approve of the good things that women do, but I don’t approve of the actions/words that are bad.
I think it’s a bit silly Glorrianny to think that we’ve not moved on that far from burning witches. That’s exaggeration in its purest form.
Actually it is fine o criticise one speech or a point of view anyone holds, but really the views expressed about Meghan go so much further than that. And much of it is based on the fact that she is a woman, and so is held to different standards.
Witches were condemned for the same reasons, she is, they were different, stood out, they acquired wealth or property, they sought power, they in some way exerted influence on another person. It isn't exaggeration it is simple fact. And the same emotions and condemnation operate here exactly as they once did.

I agree with you Glorianny that Meghan might be well suited to politics and I would have no objection to her becoming a politician in the USA.
Speaking out for women, supporting them and promoting opinions which highlight women's issues and equality has to be a good thing doesn't it. This would be commendable, but as I mentioned before, so far she has mainly wanted to speak about herself and diss the RF. She would need to stop being so vain. That's not actually true. She has I think made one or two speeches about the RF. She's been speaking out about women's issues for much longer and was involved in UN issues in 2015.
And that's the issue Glorianny. No one, this side of the pond, I'm assuming had ever heard of her or her speeches.
It wasn't until 2018 that what she said started to interest people here, and I actually thought her comments then about community and support were pertinent.
Sadly she went and spoilt it all by subsequently dissing the RF in interviews, not speeches.

^if this were men talking down about a woman like this, what would you call them? What would you think of them? How would you describe them?^
I'd say they are someone who prefers someone to give an articulate and comprehensible speech.
It's irrelevant.
I'd say the same to a man who spoke gobbledegook.
This exactly.
It does the feminist cause no good at all when someone, anyone, in the public eye stitches together a series of soundbites that sounds pretty but actually is incomprehensible. Someone upthread likened it to The Emperors New Clothes which I think is a good analogy
