Labour will be a major reforming government

I've said this before and I'll say it again. I think Sir Keir's time is coming and eventually he will become a well respected statesman. He's decent and honest, qualities you don't often see in politicians these days and that's what we need to get the country back on its feet.

Nothing like breaking a few pledges to prove one's honesty.

Nothing like realising that the promises you made are unachievable, tempering them with the benefit of experience to something you can actually deliver on, then delivering it. Some people are living in the real world, which is a great relief.

Shouldn't we treat them more of an aspiration than a definite will do. Who can say what circumstances will be like in another 12 months.

Much as I respect those ladies I doubt if they would have achieved what they have done if they’d started from the sort of background that Angela did. She also has a disabled child I believe.

She called Tories “scum”. I am so disappointed in the Labour party for resorting to calling others vile names. This must be a recent thing because my late Father voted Labour all his life and would never have supported a party that spoke like this of others.

Nye Bevan famously referred to Tries as being "lower than vermin". Angela Rayner was following a long Labour tradition.

Boris Johnson lied in parliament about Starmers role in the Jimmy Saville case and was made to withdraw his remark. That to me is far far worse. And Rees Mogg filibustered to stop a law to protect vulnerable women being passed. But, hey they did it using long words in a posh accent so that’s ok. And most people don’t know about it and, if they did have conveniently forgotten about it.

So, am I right in thinking that people think that what Raynor said is far far worse than the things that Johnson and Rees Mogg did? Because I don’t remember people at the time saying ‘ I’m never going to vote Conservative again because Johnson lied or Rees Mogg tried to stop a bill going through to protect vulnerable women’. Imo the electorate in this country have strange priorities. Or maybe what Raynor said was more newsworthy…which says a lot about our press. Did she vote against free school meals for children. Of course she didn’t. She just used a bad word which is obviously far far worse.

It's obviously OK to lie and filibuster providing you do so politely and with a posh accent. Speaking like a Northerner and using words like "scum" is completely unacceptable.

So can you explain to me exactly what is foul-mouthed about the word "scum"? It is slang certainly but many accents and dialects use slang words.
Using the accent and voice you grew up with can't be acceptable just for the wealthy, working class or regional voices are just as acceptable, and that includes slang.

Someone could I suppose, but as far as I know neither me, nor my neighbours, have wrecked the NHS, made thousands homeless, thousands more reliant on foodbanks and making the choice heat or eat, whilst they were busy lining their own pockets and stuffing their mates full of cash. Had we done so then "scum" would seem a fairly insipid description.

I think this wins the "post of the day" award.

I’ve been called scum, to my face, for living off-grid.

I didn’t think the bloke who said that was foul-mouthed. It’s not even a swear word. I do think he was a judgemental pillock, who knew nowt about my life and choices.

However, echoing Glorianny, if he knew I was choosing to let children go hungry, and sending old people off to die in care homes, he still wouldn’t have been foul-mouthed, but justified, and correct in his assessment.

Did anyone see Kwarteng being interviewed on Ch4 News tonight? Absolutely no remorse about the way he trashed the economy and caused so many problems. I wish they’d had someone there who had been affected by his catastrophic budget. An estate agent friend of ours says he’s still picking up the pieces. And Truss is travelling round the world giving lectures ( why isn’t she in her constituency doing her proper job?). Johnson has just bought a multi million pound property in Oxfordshire.
