He's entitled to free speech. What he earns and working for the BBC is irrelevant. Many in Germany didn't speak out...sins of ommision are just as bad!

Actually I would like to push back against the suggestion that if you criticise Israel you are somehow anti-Semitic.

Anyone is entitled to criticise the Israeli government policies. It is not in itself anti-Semitic. How can it be? The Israeli government is secular.

We are free to criticise any state in the world - including our own.

No one state holds special dispensation from criticism. That would be dangerous.

As you and I both know GrannyGravy, but it seems not all do.

He was saying the language was like 1930s in Germany. The propaganda was insidious, talking about "them" and "us".
The problem is GL's tweet and the nedia storm is a distraction from the actual Bill...it won't solve the problem and contravenes protection for asylum seekers. If there are limited safe and legal routes here, desperate people will do desperate things. It's just politicking to win favour before the election.

Not really interested in your personal feelings about him- how about commenting on what he said instead.

Attenborough often makes political statements as well, they might not be party political but they are political, same with Chris Packham, the problem the BBC has is that they have 'disciplined' people in the past, they arent consistent.

For a start, Coco51, plenty of people are "in uproar" (whatever that means) about the Israeli government is doing to Palestinians. Some Israelis and a lot of other people, although as usual, if you criticise Israel, you are called anti-semitic.

In any case, why should there not be "uproar" in more than one place at the same time? What our dreadful government are proposing to do to refugees, what the Russians are doing to Ukrainian civilians, what the North Korean government are doing to their own people - where do you want me to stop?

I agree with Gary Lineker - if the BBC want to suspend, punish or sack him he’ll happily take the consequences - people in public eye should stand up for their principles - just like Marcus Rashman (?) did over kids school meals (soz always forget his surname!)

Excuse me, Lady Honoria - the Morris troupe to which I used to belong are for the most past alternative, left-wing, mostly pagan and even 'woke'. As for tea at the vicarage - it seems to me that there is a goodly share of left-wing lesbian vicars, who do not fit the right-wing, repressive model at all. This government are trying to appeal to the most basic xenophobic traits in the poorly-educated and poorly-paid. It's just one of their nasty tricks. They will have more up their sleeves, and I do fear they will get back in or at least achieve a hung parliament. Well-said Mr Lineker. What he says is accurate and sensible, and in my view he has a right to say it.

But the point is none of those entering the U.K. are to be given permission and all to be deported regardless of what they have suffered.

There is a very powerful film with famous film and stage stars speaking against the governments illegal immigration bill.

I hope all and expect that all those who enter the UK without permission are detained until their permission to stay is granted. If I tried to enter another country illegally I would get arrested and detained, this country being a soft touch has only encouraged more to come.

As for stopping the gangs trafficking migrants that’s going to be very hard and I doubt current ideas are going to work.
