As it is, they now have a large number of people against them for cancelling a national treasure...

He is a freelancer, and as a sports reporter, not a political commentator, he is not barred from expressing a view online.

He did not make a controversial comment on politics in the middle of a sports report.

The risk is lower where an individual is expressing views publicly on an unrelated area, for example, a sports or science presenter expressing views on politics or the arts."

Double standards indeed! The BBC have definitely dug themselves into a very large hole. The BBC want their presenters to be impartial - whilst they are blatantly proven to not be impartial themselves!

They still use detector vans and other methods which can show if you are watching live TV.

Weren't detector vans a PR stunt to fool people into thinking they could be found out and fined for not having a TV licence?

Yes they were. There were very few of them, adorned as they were with the aerials and bits and bobs on the roof. Eventually they said they would no longer be marked and the technology was wholly contained within the vehicle. The technology didn't exist back then to identify exactly which flat in a block, or house in a terrace was watching TV. I'm not sure it even exists in any affordable way today. There has not been a single conviction for TV licence evasion using the evidence of a detector van which surely indicates something about their credibility?

Anyway, Larry the cat has tweeted that he's refusing the BBC's offer to present MotD.

I've been out for a few hours, so am not up to date with how things are progressing, but I'm guessing that following Larry's tweet, the BBC quickly put out a statement implying that they have told Larry that he will not be presenting MotD? 😉

Don’t know about now but one came to our area and our house! About 20 years ago, and they were prepared to be stroppy until I showed them our licence.Red faces back to the van.
Now so many people pay online for it I doubt they’re still doing this.
