Prince Albert was known as the Prince Consort and the term is still used of him today. There are Prince Consort pubs, Prince Consort roads, and the Prince Consorts’s Own RifleBrigafe. Let’s face it, it’s a relatively unfamiliar expression for most people and as such may sound strange to them.
It wasn’t a magazine DaisyAnne, it was the front page of the Daily Express. No other newspapers are yet doing this. Perhaps ‘shocked ‘ was the wrong word. ‘Surprised’ may have been preferable. It wasn’t a matter of enjoying it. I am just interested in accuracy, particularly in the media, and my question was a genuine one.
I just refer to her as Camilla. I’m not ready to give up QE2 just yet. In our family we tend to refer to her as ‘the proper Queen’ or ‘the real Queen’.
When she and Charles were married, it was said that when he became King, Camilla would be referred to as Princess Consort. Later, Queen Elizabeth said it was her wish that Camilla be Queen Consort. I thought we all expected that the ‘Consort’ bit would disappear!
The term Consort does not sound right. She is married to the King and should be known as the Queen, which it what I would prefer. She is already referred to as her Majesty which is fine by me.
Queen consorts we’re always referred to as Queen (first name) when carrying out official duties on their own but when with their husbands it was always the King and Queen (no first names)
So she is Queen Camilla - no need for consort other than the fact that it was QE II’s decision that Camilla should be referred to as Queen Consort.
Bit too soon for my liking! I got quite a shock reading this particular headline - it was about Camilla’s view on the Roald Dahl debate. The Queen couldn’t possibly have a view!
And which magazine was that in Kate?
I have a feeling you enjoy being "shocked" by such sillyness.

Twice this week while in the newsagent’s, I noticed that the Daily Express has taken to referring to Camilla as The Queen, both in a front page headline and a news story. Surely this is incorrect? I understood the title could only be used with a female born ‘into’ the role as it were.
