Are you a member of any political Party?

My Jewish friends like me, oppose the Israeli govt. policies to Palestine - thst doesn’t make us antiSemitic

I was briefly a Labour Party member in the 1970s since which time I joined no Party. I voted Lib Dem to keep a Tory out and then they ratted and joined the Tory-led coalition. Never again.

I joined Labour when Jeremy Corbyn became leader, but left after what I felt was unfair treatment of him; he is not an anti-semite, but opposes Israel's politics towards the Palestinians, as do I. Also I felt there was a possibility of Labour getting back closer to its roots. I too live in a constituency that will only ever vote in a Conservative or Lib-Dem MP, so I tactically vote Lib-Dem to try and get the Tories out.

With all the deceit, lying and false promises we've had over the last few years, I would love to have a PM who lives in an ordinary house, prioritises working people and the poor, isn't a Sir, and most of all, does not lie.

Never been a paid up member of any party. I have always voted, mainly conservative, when living in other regions voted Liberal as there were no Conservative candidates or I did not consider them suitable, never voted Labour although I do think Andy B & Yvette Cooper, seem to have some integrity compared to many others. I feel very disillusioned and honestly don't know who I would vote for now.

No, not sufficiently (or remotely) enthused about the only two who ever stand a chance here. Dh is signed up with the LDs though - we are currently LD.

I was a member of the Labour Party for years, serving two separate terms as a local councillor. I was expelled in the end after writing a letter to the local paper supporting the Green candidate in a general election as the only anti-Trident candidate on the ballot. I was a member of the Green Party for a while after that, and since I moved to Scotland I've been a member of the SNP.

No, not strange for others, but totally not for me. I’ve voted for all three parties in the past (I know you didn’t ask that) but have no idea who I will vote for next time. I would hate to be tied into support for one party, plus I don’t want to fund any of them, although I guess I must have supported Labour with my NUT fees when I was teaching because I never opted out. But no, I have no allegiance to any of them and no desire to either.

Your post intrigues me maddyone- may I ask why? You make it sound like belonging, and therefore supporting financially (Labour gets funding from Unions, and Tories by rich donors who want support in Governement, and/or influence- but Greens, Lib Dems, etc, do not- and they need finances to operate) is a bit of an aberration or strange thing to do. Why?

Why would any one invite the torrent of accusations they’d get on here if they said they were a member of the Tory party?
Sensible GNs won’t even reveal that they vote Tory, never mind being a member of the party. I would never have admitted to voting Labour when Gordon Brown wiped thousands of DH’s pension.

I have been an active campaigner, for the SNP since I was 14 (My parents were members) Never voted anything else in a GE but have given my 2nd vote to the Greens at SG elections. For LA elections when you have to rank the candidates in order of preference, (4 councillors to be elected in the ward) I have voted for SNP 1 & 2, Green 3 and the better of the 2 Labour candidates 4.

We have a duty to vote. People died for our right to do so.

I’ve never belonged to a political party. I was brought up Liberal/Lib Dem, and vote either for them or Green. I have voted Labour in the past, but no longer. I’ve never voted Tory and am never likely to.

A member of the Labour Party for over 50 years, left when Corbyn was leader, joined again when he stood down.

I have usually voted Labour, and after the 2015 election joined. I was appalled by the treatment of Jeremy Corbyn, who brought some hope, and left when Keir Starmer reneged on his pledges.
Yesterday I joined Compass. Not really expecting much progress, but so depressed at the state of the country, I felt I should do something, however small.

No, absolutely not! And I never will be.

No - never have been and never will be. I vote according to how good or otherwise the local member is. There are some parties I wouldn’t vote for but that doesn’t include the major ones.

It’s interesting and positive to see so many of us are interested in politics.
I worry when I hear people say they won’t vote, there’s no point because ‘they’re all the same’. No they aren’t, the policies and ideologies that underpin them are different.

I joined the Labour Party a few years ago but decided it was pointless as they wouldn't stand candidates in NI.

I am a member of the Liberal Democrats and pleased to see so many other Gransnetters are too.
