World-famous entertainers will perform at Windsor Castle as part of a weekend of celebrations to mark the King's coronation, it has been announced.
The concert will be broadcast on the BBC on 7 May featuring "global music icons", orchestras and a diverse "coronation choir".

Which 'global icons' would you expect to see on stage?
Oh poor chas. Of Chas and Dave. Not prince charles
I’d like to see a classical concert. Too much to hope, I know, but I suspect Charles would prefer it, too. Seems a shame to dumb down for the sake of easy popularity.
If King Charles was really "the people's king" and wanted to be in tune with modern sensibilities he would scrap the coronation with all its mystical mumbo jumbo and have a much cheaper Scandi style declaration in front of parliament. The millions saves could be devoted to helping the vulnerable with the COL crisis.
charles is hoping it passes off with no boos!

Well said!
But that's not what everyone wants biglouis. There will be those and I'm one of them, wanting to see tradition maintained all be it in a slimmed down way.

Like I said on the other thread...anybody got a sick bag? 🤢
I'm one of the "people" and I don't want him.
We know, you started a thread.
You clearly just want an argument.
Like many thousands of others, I am looking forward to the whole Coronation weekend. I hope the Rolling Stones will feature in the concert, also Sam Ryder. As we will be celebrating our Commonwealth and British heritage, I would love to see some British folk music featured.
I will be on the Mall. I have my coach ticket from Cornwall and expect to be in a big crowd, watching the magnificent parade.

What input/influence do you think King Charles actually has?
So many of these concerts have become, IMO, cringefests by trying to be all things to all people - and ending up pleasing no-one.I quite agree.
As I’ve said on another thread, it seems that Charles believes that he is entitled to the respect and good will that his mother had earned.
I’m annoyed (to put it lightly) that his tin ear will hasten the end of the monarchy.
Centuries of history could be squandered due to his arrogance.
This was the perfect opportunity for evolution.
But instead they are thumbing their noses to the lot of us.
This is only going to prove that they need to go
😡
I'm with you on this one Fanny.
The people can have street parties, will they who is going to pay for them in this Economic downturn?
The people on the Bank holiday Monday he has so kindly given could go and volunteer somewhere, maybe the food banks that so many need desperately.
His actions are turning the moderates amongst us Republicans.

Yes I did. I started a new thread because I didn't want to take over the thread where the royalists were enjoying themselves. But if you make the effort to sling some mud at me on a thread I had decided to stay away from, then all bets are off.
I love a bit of pageantry and am looking forward to watching the coronation. I saw the coronation of Queen Elizabeth 11 but being 18 months old I don't remember any of it.
As for the entertainment, I expect there will be Paul McCartney, Brian May and Adam Lambert and Queen. Katherine Jenkins and possibly Bryn Terfel.
There seem to be quite a few people who would like to see a slimmed down monarchy. I commented on another thread that the last coronation in Sweden was in 1873. One poster pointed out that it was irrelevant to tell what happens in other countries.
If we can't learn from others we are only damaging ourselves. But then we always know best, don't we?
If it is anything like the cringeworthy jubilee "concert" I will not be listening .... what is wrong with a lovely orchestral concert with British performers? We have wonderful orchestras and musicians... the Kanneh Masons, Welsh harpists, Nichola Benedetti. Charlie Boy loves opera ... let's have a quality concert please!
As it’s going ahead, I’d like to see some more modern bands, not wheeling out the oldies. Taylor Swift, Lewis Capaldi, Weeknd, to name a few.
My choice Michael Buble, Jools Holland and his Orchestra, Vanessa Mae, traditional Scottish band, Queen and Adam Lambert, Ed Sheeran and Andre Bocelli and a gospel choir. That should do it. 🥳🥳
I enjoyed the Jubilee last year, I have attended a few events over the years where various members of the Royal Family have been in attendance. I am a supporter of GB having Royalty. However this morning OH and I decided the Prince Andrew/ H&M etc etc will just spoil the things I would usually enjoy. It sounds as though it won't be all that spectacular so we have booked a mini break in Europe over that weekend.
Agree!!
I think it would be nice to just have British or Comonwealth singers, celebrities in these performances. Taylor Swift is American. There is more than enough homegrown talent to do it. Hopefully, not Paul McCartney.
Just as a point of information, how much actual tax payers money will be wasted, I mean spent, on any and all of the Coronation activities?
Volver it's ok to have strong opinions , although also it's ok to try and keep to subject too! The subject is the coronation, not whether we need a monarch.
Hopefully Lewis Capaldi for the Scottish contingent. A very funny young man.
As much as I love Rod, The Stones, Queen, McCartney and Elton I think they need to make way for younger blood.
Maybe some more modern black stars rather than the many white stars being mentioned on here. Also looking at some of the stars from the different nations that make up the UK? We could make this a diverse and inclusive event.
There will be many of us who will enjoy the pomp and circumstance of the coronation, whilst I think we need a “slimmed down” monarchy in terms of financing them and whilst I’m not a royalist per say I’m not sure what the poor man has done which is so awful ! He presides over the Duke of Edinburgh Award which is a great scheme and challenge for young people and started The Princes Trust, which has benefitted young people. He is environmentally aware and employs many many people - what’s so awful about him ? Shall we give the poor old bugger a chance to show us how he is as King ? Personally I’m proud of our country when we put on “a show” and even if he sold the Crown Jewels and properties the monies would no doubt go to our government and “disappear” not be spent directly on our homeless and needy people !

So no high horses required, just slightly less rude monarchists.
He presides over the Duke of Edinburgh Award.
No he doesn't.
