Would a white person born in Africa describe themselves as African though?

But why African?
Would I describe myself as European first or British?

Africa is a continent, not a country.
I have friends and wider family from various countries in Africa, they'd describe themselves as Zimbabwean, South African, Nigerian etc.

Would a white person born in Africa describe themselves as African though? It is difficult for white people to recognise that people can suffer discrimination as the result of their skin colour, since it almost never happens to them. Maybe if the older lady had just said something like, " that's an amazing outfit, where does it come from?" she might have had more of a proper conversation. The late Queen used to ask " Have you come far?" which is a brilliant question, because if they said "Hackney" they could have discussed that, if they said "Antigua or somewhere that would be another topic for conversation. Pity Hussey didn't follow her example.

I'm going to take another stance here after reading the transcript and watching T.V. Why did the coloured lady who was born in England and is 61 feel she had to dress like the people of the country where her parents were from. Provocative? making a point? We are all taking her side but did she not realise that dressing the way she did brings questions?
I know freedom of dress, freedom of speech and I agree with them but surely a well-chosen outfit to catch attention.

It is a clear case of acting with entitlement and demeaning the person you are to engage with.

I think this point hits the nail on the head. Lady Hussey is part of the privileged, entitled, ruling class. It’s in her very DNA to regard many sectors of society as beneath her. She wouldn’t question the right or wrong of moving someone’s hair etc because, in her hierarchical view of life, the person is ‘lower than her’. Look at all the bowing, scraping and doffing of caps that goes on around the royals, even in 2022! This current event highlights the condescending behaviour of those with privilege - as well as being about skin colour & heritage it’s about the deeply ingrained classism that runs through UK society like a stick of bloody Blackpool rock!
