Boris Johnson - a warning from history

It’s all so depressing. How on earth can anyone with more than one brain cell consider Johnson the perfect choice? As the picture framer (I’m having a picture framed) said this morning, it is so frightening. It is. The thought that blond buffoon, who lies through his teeth and has no morals, may be back in No 10 is a scary thought. And why the heck has he been on holiday? There isn’t a recess. My brother rang from Australia this morning to crow over the fact that they now have a decent Prime Minister.

Even if Boris gets back because the members voted for him , he won’t have the support of his MPs and many have threatened to leave and become Independent

I think that whoever gets the PM crown knows that the Conservatives will lose the next GE.

I hope it happens and Boris does win, as it would be an unmitigated disaster for the future of the Tory Party - be careful what you wish for.

However whatever Twitter is saying, there’s a tally being kept on Sky News when MPs declare, and nearly all the serious politicians are backing Sunak, the names are listed. Latest tally is 58 Sunak, 18 Mordaunt, 36 Johnson - not that any of them have declared that they are definitely standing as yet.

I wonder how many of the MPs with the pro-BJ inboxes are writing back asking them to explain Why they want him back and What are the benefits of Brexit that they're most pleased about (since that seems to be his greatest 'achievement').

My DH has always been a Boris supporter, although he is far from being unintelligent, uneducated or a dimwit! Last night, however, he surprised me by saying he was so disillusioned with all politicians that he won't be voting in the next election.
Having said that, DH secretly sees Boris as the best choice for leader of the Opposition successfully standing up to Starmer and challenging him across the table. His return may not be imminent but watch the space to come.

(And of course, dragonfly46 it actually isn't really done even now.)

Well it is looking like it is a shoo-in for Boris.
They obviously think having him as leader is the best chance of them retaining their seats - there can't be any other reason.
What has he ever done?
Oh of course he got Brexit done - well we all know how that turned out.

If Johnson is selected I hope the (somewhat hampered by time ) investigation about him misleading Parliament finds him guilty.

What would happen then??

There have been numerous Conservative MP’s on various news items over the last 18 hours saying that their inboxes are full of support from constituents for Mr,Johnson.

As unpalatable as it is for some, there are people on the street who still see BJ as one of them he appeals to those on the fringes of politics due to his one of the blokes persona.

Johnson wasn't even 'popular with most of the electorate' at the 2019 general election. More people voted against him than for him.

(and please, don't anybody tell me that tories won more seats. Seats are not electors, people are)

You can dress it up however you please but the fact is that when Mr.Johnson was leader of the Conservatives they won with a 80 seat majority under the current electoral system in the U.K.

My preference would be a GE in November in order to start a fresh in 2023.

My son is a political "smart arse". I remember a discussion with him just after Johnson resigned and he told me with absolute conviction that he'd be back. I'm going to hate his crowing smile when he says "I told you so, Mum".

But remember it was the MP’s themselves who put Truss up against Sunak! They wanted their man so badly that Mordaunt wasn’t in the final two. And up until then she had the edge over Truss.

The MP’s wanted the lesser candidate for the membership vote. They banked on Sunak winning as he’s slicker. However, much to the surprise of the Tory MP’s, the membership voted for Truss as they couldn’t get over that Sunak had plotted (with Gove) and stabbed Boris in the back!

Plotting and planning doesn’t always deliver the desired outcome.

A friend who is a committed Conservative thinks Boris has been hard done by and was just a victim, she'd forgive him and have him back. It's not a point of view I agree with!!!
