I agree Lathyrus they clearly need to spread the message far and wide that they have policies which will benefit the population at large.

They will spread the message. There were other things to do after the last disastrous election. Remember most people are not as interested in politics as those on these threads.

I will be very interested to see how KS deals with Truss in PMQs.

We've got one of those JaneJudge, so useless as to be damaging. He gets in by a huge majority every time and I boggle at why people vote for him. I'm hoping for some kind of Tiverton &Honiton experience here.

We have been unrepresented since April when our disgraced former Tory MP lost the Tory whip because of his behavour (drugs, sex, corruption) but has not had the decency to resign.

Since then constituents have been getting help from the prospective LibDem candidate, who is a popular and effective local councillor but is now also doing unpaid work which should be done by an MP.

It will be a tactical vote, but hope it will be labour

I voted for labour under Tony Blair. Since the demise of Blair and Brown I have reverted to voting Conservative and expect to do so again as things currently stand, but we don’t yet know what any of the parties’ manifestos will look like, nor which personalities would be likely to form another government.

Your last sentence is true. I predicted five years of unusual impact on people's lives from the beginning of Covid in early 2020. What I didn't imagine was that it would morph into a war in Ukraine and the energy issues. We have two and a half years to go of what the "standard cycle" of five years seems, to me, to be. Who knows what will happen in that time?

However, the OP was "If there were a General Election tomorrow ... " That is probably the best we can do at the moment(smile)

Because Labour has seemed almost nonexistent in the last three years, to me. Internal stuff?

I would like any government that could act for the common good and make rational, considered decisions.

If that’s Labour it’s not coming over to ordinary people who just want a good ordinary life.

We had a brilliant Labour mp until he retired and it s been Tory Tory ever since
The last ones been in for ever and has done absolutely nothing for the area and on looking at his voting history he’s voted against everything I believe in and for everything I abhor

Our constituency is always a toss up between Tory and LD, Labour come pretty much nowhere, so it’ll almost certainly be LD - though TBH I’m not too enchanted with them either, because of their stance on the ‘woman’ issue.

I’d never not vote, but once, many years ago, I was so disenchanted with the lot of them, that I voted for the Monster Raving Loony candidate.

I live where Labour has no hope so to get the Tories out the obvious choice is Lib Dem but their history of ratting on their voters by going into coalition with the Cameron Tories makes me very wary.

My Labour MP has always had a majority of 20,000+ and rarely bothers to tell us he is standing for a GE because he knows he will romp home.

I have never not voted but also it has never been for Labour so like the last time I think I also voted for somebody obscure.

SNP .The only party in Scotland that doesn't dance to Westminsters tune .

I have no idea. My Lib Dem MP is useless generally. She ousted the Tory MP (it was a ‘safe’ seat previously. We are disgruntled Labour voters and definitely won’t vote for them until they sort themselves out. I think Kier is having a crack at finding his backbone so there may be hope by the next election. So it will be a tactical vote probably, maybe an independent. I honestly don’t see any party as fit to run this country based on current policies and previous disgraceful behaviour. It’s inherent in all of them. Perhaps we should form a GN party, now that would make an interesting government ?

Labour - we have a very good Labour MP but it's marginal and I definitely don't want the Tory back!

The Conservatives would never be elected in my constituency but the Libdems have been not so very long ago. I would have to have a look if Ed Davey is more left wing than Starmer and maybe give my vote to the Libdems. It would be very hard though, having always voted Labour in the past.

In our conservative area will have to be tactical vote for Libdem but really keeping fingers crossed for Labour. Our con MP is only interested in those with big money.

Probably Lib-Dem as they have the best chance of getting in round here.

That’s what I mean about too internally focused. Solid Labour supporters might know and believe they are great policies. But Labour already has those votes. It’s the other votes like mine they need. is true.

In this climate of distrust of all politicians, we need a forceful candidate with policies that will reassure people.
Politics is discussed in my hairdressers on a regular basis, (because you don’t argue with someone who’s got scissors next to your ears!) .
The general consensus today seemed to be, No to Liz Truss and we need to get rid of Tories. But not to expect any other government to fulfil their manifesto promises because they will use the age old excuse of ‘can’t do it because of the mess left by the previous government’.
Kier Starmer doesn’t fill them with confidence.
