And why only eight months in prison rather than something nearer to the maximum of five years that can be handed out for cruelty to dogs?
As far as I know, the maximum prison sentence for cruelty to a badger (and a fox?) is still only six months, while it is five years for cruelty to a dog. Why, when they are sentient and very social creatures, just like dogs
I've been lucky enough to watch badgers in the wild quite a bit recently. They live in social groups, they play together, share their 'housework' (clearing out their bedding and replacing it with new), and a few evenings ago I was close enough to be able to hear them chattering away to each other as they foraged in the ditch only feet away from me.. They deserve and need every bit as much protection as dogs!
