It's about free speech Dinhamo If your bank stopped you from having a bank account I'm sure you'd think differently.

At this moment, it obviously doesnt seem important to you, but if you were in the position that over 10,000 people find themselves you would be glad this is being addressed.

Freedom of speech and action is bigger than ULEZ ect., in fact did anyone actually vote for ULEZ, (I know very little so you could enlighten me)?

To many things that affect us have come about not through voting, but by our institutions deciding what they think we should have.

There has been very little dissent from the other mainstream broadcasters.

Therefore I for one am very glad this is happening.

I only wish I was knowledgeable enough to convince you!

It's not exactly earth shattering news, or of any importance. Where do you think it would come in a list of other news items, such as fires in Europe, ULEZ, byelections, the state of the economy etc etc?

Are you conflating a private wedding cake supplier with a gov. owned (30%) bank?

Plus this isn't about one person (I presume you mean NF). This is a high profile person using his platform to shine a light on all the other (possibly in excess of 10,000 people) cases, who have had to cope with the banks decision, without any redress.

Someone on the radio today was talking about the need for a State Bank for those people unable to get access to a general bank,

Apparently there are over 2 million people who dont have b accounts in this country.
AR said the central pillar of her tenure was to support the climate.
Maybe she should concentrate on telling the truth and financial services?

I agree Callistemon But none of this has prevented them from giving out 25 million (I think) in bonuses.

Banks are there to facilitate our monetary transactions.
They are not arbiters of our moral or political views.

Banks should look to themselves and their directors first before trying to tell others what they should be doing or what they should be thinking. They themselves are far from perfect.

Apparently ministers are drawing up plans to ensure bank customers are given three months notice of an account being closed and a clearer explanation, and looking to change licences so they can’t discriminate based on political views. I presume it will go before parliament in the autumn as they break up for the summer tomorrow. I don’t know why Sunak seemed lukewarm about it, but he was.

You may be right Casdon, but I don't know why not.

It's been at least 10 years in the making, with small businesses and 'ordinary' customers suffering from this heavy handed treatment from the banks.

At PMQ today the PM said the government's Financial Services and Markets Act puts in place "new measures to ensure that politically exposed persons are being treated in an appropriate and proportionate manner". Is that what you mean Namsnanny when you say that there has been a lot of cross party support for Farage, an inquiry was requested by Jacob Rees-Mogg but rejected by Sunak as above.

Well, I didn't expect you to change your views Wwmk2 but it does seem as if the gov. feel differently.

There has been a lot of cross party support for NF position.

This is about freedom of the individual to believe anything they choose, with in the law.

Who are the banks to decided who they do and don't agree with?

They have been bailed out with tax payers money.

Coutts lied and gave NF info to a third party, the BBC.

I noted you left out that after considerable investigation, Coutts stated there was no evidence of financial or any other dealings from NF with Russia.

A lot of this is down to ESG and AI

I asked the original question above to see if anyone else is open to change their opinion in the light of truth?

With regard to Nigel Farage, he was deemed a perfectly respctable customer of Coutts for a number of years and they were perfectly happy to use his money and accept his bank charges.
The people who have 'exited' him remain anonymous, and the Chief Executive refused to give him any reason for his expulsion when questioned. This committee needs to be made accountable for their decision.
It is reasonable for any institution to refuse to accept a new customer after investigation if they choose, but having accepted them and their money for a number of years it is totally unacceptable to remove them without even the courtesy of an explanation, and 'leak ' untrue information to cover themselves.
I shall be very interested to find out who is behind this, and I am sure NF will pursue it . I have my suspicions, but absolutely no evidence, so I shan't be saying.

I looked him up after MaizieD’s post. He’s a journalist, he presents a nightly show. It’s all over Twitter.

I had a look, realise I may have seen him, but he's hardly as well-known as Huw Edwards who was a national institution.

That's why I posted it on this thread where the GBN lovers who'd laid into Huw Edwards would know who he was.

I thought that GBN was very well known and popular. So it's devotees were telling us... 🤔

All I remembered about him was his accent.
