Such rumours are the sort of propaganda Putin himself would put about for his own unfathomable reasons. Can you imagine them coming from anywhere else in a country where one man has such complete control?

Putin - cancer surgery
(84 Posts)Those speculating a while back as to whether Putin was ill were right by the sound of it.
The New York Times is reporting that he is going in for surgery and he is meanwhile transferring power to an ex FSB bod.
I thought you were all wrong! Just shows what I know?.
As long as they end the war and leave Ukraine alone that would be fine. Reparations though? The poor country needs massive rebuilding.
There have been mutterings about a putsch almost from the beginnning of the war.
The parallel is what happened to Kruschev in 1964 after the Bay of Pigs eyeball to eyeball confrontation with President Kennedy. Kruschev was deposed and replaced by Leonid Brezhnev. He went into retirement with a pension and lived until 1971.
Hopefully this is what will happen to Putin, although he may well not need a pension as he is a very wealthy man.
Mind you Leonid Brezhniv was an old school communist leader, under him the Russian economy shrank, there were food shortages and the country slid technically well behind other countries. Corruption became emdemic, although a group of people around Brezhnev, known as the Nomenklatura never lacked anything. He was in power for 18 years.
So what comes after Putin, politically and economically may be no better than what we have now, or even worse, but they would almost without doubt, end the war.

Rumours are swirling in Moscow that a number of former generals and KGB officials are preparing to oust Putin and plan to end the war in Ukraine, which is increasingly seen across Russia as a strategic mistake and, above all, an economic disaster.
I wonder what the truth is?
I’ve seen some reports that it would degenerate into a civil war within Russia ultimately if that happens as there isn’t a clear view of the future, and some of the generals are already positioning themselves - and a number have already been killed in Ukraine, which which may change the dynamics. It’s one big mess.
Blimey - is that good or bad! Do we know what the Generals would do? ;

Just read that there may be a coup to depose Putin. Generals and senior security staff unhappy at Russian losses. Please God can they prevail and bring this cruel atrocity to an end.
I was just scrolling whilst cooking GC dinner and saw that being reported on cityam.com not sure how reliable they are?
(Haven’t time to check)
you cannot say you are opposed to capital punishment and then condemn, other people, no matter how heinous their crimes, to death.
I, personally, didn't.
I said we shouldn't kill him, and I am opposed to the death penalty in all circumstances.

Yes
Kiselyov is a TV presenter.
I think that is Vladimir Solovyov, M0nica
When I have principles I stick to them, and you cannot say you are opposed to capital punishment and then condemn, other people, no matter how heinous their crimes, to death.
I had a jewish friend who was opposed to capital punishement at the time Adolf Eichman, the dogsbody who organised and ran the Holocaust came up for trial in Israel.
He found that he felt that the only punishment sufficient for Eichman's crimes was death and formally declared he could no longer advocate the abolishment of the death penalty because he was advocating it in one case, my view is no different.
It just struck me that Kiselyov was as certifiable at Putin. If he were to take charge, even only temporarily, we would know with certainity that, that the Russia government is a lunatic assylum, andcontrol is definitely in the hands of the lunatics.
Careful M0nica. You might just fall off that moral high ground and hurt yourself.
Nuclear bombs and a tsunami? I think you need to review your reading material. Just like Dmitry Kiselyov.

Whilst so many on here seem to think that the death of Putin would alter anything I do not understand.
Perhaps part of our media's reporting that puts it all down to one man. Putin's appointed deputy seems to be cut from the same political cloth, and could be even worse,
Agree....there’ll always be the next in line.

Why is it terrible to want him gone? This individual is responsible for untold suffering. He has his hand on the nuclear button and is unlikely to accept any kind of defeat. He may be the Anti Christ (those who know their Bibles will know what I'm talking about). He certainly fits the bill and has the ability to bring about Armageddon.
Unfortunately, he’s not the Anti Christ. He is yet to come. He will appear to bring worldly peace, and bring all Nations together, under one world government, for a few years. He will completely deceive....even Christians. Then all hell ( literally), will break loose.
Putin is evil beyond evil. No one is deceived by him. He’s completely obvious.
The persistence, duration and uniformity of these reports - cancer, Parkinsons, dementia? - suggests that they have some substance in dact.
Is the man who will deputise for him,the one on record as threatening to wipe Britain off the map with nuclear bombs that will cause a huge tsunami and leave the British Isles forever a radio active desert? Wouldn't that by jumping out of the frying pan into a huge firy furnace?
Just a query, how many of those of you who just want to see him dead, dying in pain etc etc are opposed to capital punishement?
I just want him out, with a bit of luck he will so scare his colleaguues, with his recent statements that the yes men around him will rise up and do what they did with Kruschev, and just remove him.
I would like to see him whisked away from the hospital where he is being treated and taken to The Hague. The list of his crimes is enormous. When he is found guilty, which he will be, he should be kept in solitary confinement for the rest of his life.
The vicious thinking is on behalf of the Ukrainians whose children have been murdered, their homes destroyed and their whole way of life ended to satisfy one megalomaniac.
I would like to see him tried for his crimes and spend his last years, if he has that long, in prison.
Why should he get away with the atrocities he has committed.
I dont think our press or media is 'nearly' as bad as Russia.
I also feel we should be careful what we wish for.
In any case, the regime as a whole has to be seen to be beaten. Because China is in the wings.

I can kind of see where Granny'70s is coming from.
He's a despicable character and somebody needs to stop him. But to wish him to be tortured and to die a slow and painful death makes us no better than him, or no better than those 'people' in places like Saudi Arabia who enjoy watching public flogging, stonings, beheadings and other barbaric sub-human practices that apparently are still happening in this day and age.
I'd like to think we've evolved to become better people than that.
Thank goodness. I was beginning to worry about the vicious thinking of some people on this thread.

I agree with you. He's an absolute monster and the world would be a better place without him. But I don't see what we would gain by him suffering.
I mean, I wouldn't have any great sympathy, but I wouldn't wish it on him either.
Just reading that the USA thinks that Putin is about to declare war on ukraine. I’m not sure that they will notice the difference, but apparently it means that they can use more/bigger artillery.
