I'm no fan of the SNP, but I think Nicola Sturgeon's momentary forgetfulness about the need for a mask is quite understandable. She quickly realised she needed a mask and put one on. She then apologised.
How could anyone but the most sycophantic Tory supporter think that this in any way compares to Johnson's repeated flagrant breaches of his own rules and lying to parliament???

Not just Boris then!
(169 Posts)So ... Nicola Sturgeon was reported to Police Scotland on Sunday for breaking her own mask laws, a breach that could result in a £60 fine, reduced to £30 if paid within 28 days.
Only hours before Saturday's visit to the barber shop in East Kilbride, the SNP issued a press release in which she urged Scots to vote for her party on May 5 "if you are as outraged as I am about the Prime Minister's contempt for the law."
Oh dear.
While she too be asked to resign?
I don’t envy the heckling Ian Blackford from Skye will be subjected to when he stands up n the HoC.
I don't really have anything to add this morning expect to say what a positive thread this is. So I hope this isn't going to bring down the tone.
The person who reported Sturgeon is in a bit of an excited state this morning, and tweeted this:
The whole (..Police Scotland..) website has got SNP wokeness written all over it. " Help make Scotland a better place"
https://scotland.police.uk
Making Scotland a better place is SNP wokeness, apparently.
This is what we are putting up with.
Not surprised at the forgiveness shown to NS. She broke her own rules, but after all she did apologize so let's forgive her.
Boris thought he was within the rules but the police decided that the gatherings weren't work, or weren't necessary, so issued a fine. Boris has apologized - but, hey, many here think this is unforgiveable! Boris was in his office doing 'government' they way he thinks best - I have no idea on how to run a government but I do know it means talking to people, getting people to work together and trust what he was doing in No 10 during the pandemic was entirely 'work'.
A lot of hypocrites here.
Personally, I accept NS's apology, as I did Boris's
"For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."

As with Watergate, it's the relentless lying about it that has made this important. And the lying to HoC is unforgivable. But then he'd previously lied the Queen, so he has form.
If you feel that attending 6 (?) parties is comparable to once forgetting to put your mask on when you go into a shop, I'm surprised.

The OP ?
Chardy You say 'parties', I say government meetings.
I accept Boris thought he was, at the time, keeping within the rules, the law, whatever, with his style of government / management. As such, he hasb't been lying and wasn't deliberately trying to mislead parliment. He has now been found 'guilty' and fined so has accepted this and apologized.
I also accept NS made a genuine mistake not wearing her face mask. She wasn't fined despite the evidence being incontrovertible and so had no option to acknowledge her mistake and apologise.

Why was Carrie Johnson also fined? Is it normal practice for a prime minister’s spouse to attend “government meetings”?
What excuse are you going to find for him if he is charged for the ABBA party in his flat HolySox?

Were you there, to have been able to judge that these were not parties?
Do you not think that the police, with access to all the evidence, are better equipped to make judgements about this and the seriousness of any breaking of rules?
Do you always accept apologies, even if they are given under duress and the speaker's insincerity is blatantly obvious?
Can you not see the different level of guilt between NS's momentary lapse of concentration, rectified as soon as it is realized, and BJ's seemingly habitual record of lying and denying?
Most of us have probably, on the odd occasion, done exactly the same as NS and forgotten our mask momentarily. I know that I have, and like her, I put it on the moment I realized. If a police officer had seen me without it, I doubt very much that they would have fined me, but rather just reminded me / warned me to put it on.
I have not, however, at any time since Covid restrictions first began, attended anything that might be seen as a rule-breaking gathering, and I don't think that many people have. Those who did risked being reported by neighbours and being fined. They knew the risks. It was a deliberate act, and they knew the possible consequences.
To me, there is simply no comparison between the two, and I find it almost childish when people start trying to say that one is as bad as the other
Urmstongran
Maybe Boris & Nicola could offer to resign together?
Indeed, they are entirely equivalent.
Nicola Sturgeon was twice sacked for lying before she became First Minister. She was then recorded trying to get a critical journalist beaten up. After becoming First Minister she lied to the Queen and illegally prorogued the Scottish parliament, while simultaneously and repeatedly stating that she was building 40 new hospitals. When asked why she was in the barber’s shop, she continued to lie to the Scottish Parliament, saying variously “No rules were broken”, “I was assured that no rules were broken”, “there were no shops”, “I wasn’t even sure it was a barber’s shop”, “I’m not going to give a running commentary we must wait for the outcome of the report”, “It would be inappropriate of me to comment while Police Scotland are investigating”, “I accept the decision of Police Scotland but I don’t necessarily agree with them”. One single person, a communications specialist in the Scottish Civil Service, has been forced out for being caught on camera making a joke about barbers’ shops.
Boris Johnson on the other hand, as soon as he realised it was a party, acknowledged his mistake put on a mask and sent people home.

Why do people choose to equate a few seconds of forgetfulness, agreed by all as wrong, with deliberately ignoring the rules and lying, time after time, to parliament?
If Johnson's attendance at illegal gatherings was due to a moment of forgetfulness each time he did it then we have additional issues to consider.
Those who disagree with you Holysox are not hypocrites.
Why do you see the need to call people names?
Methinks that Holysox is one of an increasingly smaller number of Johnson sycophants. thank goodness.
Trivial by comparison with Johnson's party going and lying about it.
I am no fan of NS, but recognise that she made a mistake and quickly rectified it. Those of you who still maintain that your cuddly Boris is being hounded by the nasty posters on here are so out of touch with what is being reported, even by the BBC, just what do you read or listen to? HE LIED TO YOU. Is that clear? HE DOESN'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK. Still deaf? He has lied to his employers, he has lied to his wife, he has lied to his mistresses, he has lied to the Queen, he has lied to the House of Commons, why do you think he isn't lying to you?
I believe she crossed the road on the red man too……. ?
This is getting a bit petty now. Boris will get what he deserves in the next election I am sure.
Even worse Glamgran she had a bag of mini eggs to give to children she met on campaign ....wicked woman using bribes !!
There is no comparison, ridiculous to suggest there is.
She was foolish and it was an oversight and yes she should apologise and feel ashamed BUT, for me she didn’t stand up in parliament and say I always wear my mask, I’ve never forgotten my mask ! Johnson is a proven out and out liar in this job role and some of his previous job roles and in my opinion a man with no professional or personal morals !
Feel ashamed? Really? For going in a shop for a couple of minutes without a mask on?
World's gone mad...
Petera
How do you know BJ put a mask on?
TopsyIrene: I have come across one person here down south and the only reason she dislikes Nicola is because "She doesn't like Boris and she has too much to say." Seriously?
Anyone who supports the liar and lawbreaker Boris Johnson as PM should hang their head in shame.
Mistymitts
Will he ? Will Johnson get what he deserves way way ahead in 2024 ? Sadly there seems to be a whole new class of “Boris” worshippers for whom this terrible government can do know wrong. We all have such conveniently short memories, this party’s MPs were the worst offenders in the MP expenses scandal, so easily forgotten and forgiven and voted back in. It is not petty to expect those who make the law to then uphold it… if it was just his birthday and he’d admitted it immediately then people are right to overlook it but it’s not is it ! He’d still be lying had he not been “caught out”
That's not the first time Sturgeon has had to publicly apologise for forgetting her mask
