As my NHS worker daughter said despairingly last night, he expects them to become unicorns and fart rainbows!

I feel a bit resentful that we seem to be getting the blame for not having boosters when only certain age groups had been invited to have them! My dd who is CEV under JCVI advice was only called for hers last week

No health authorities were warned. I suspect the only one knowing of the vaccine push until 8pm was Johnson.

The NHS is on its knees. The most obvious indicator most of us see is the difficulty in communicating with your GP. As for actually seeing your GP - 3-6 week waits seem to be the new normal.

Where is this army of health professionals to administer the roll out of jabs to come from? Even the army of volunteers is feeling the strain.

OH works in a Vaccination Centre and they already have a team of Army personnel who have joined them last week to help roll out this concerted effort in administering Boosters to all eligible - must be 2 months since Jab 2 (in addition to seeing the patients coming for 1st, 2nd or 3rd vaccinations) in the coming weeks.
They are all committed to getting the job done.

That's reassuring from someone who knows Tilly, thank you, and involving the army in vaccinations certainly made the figures soar last time round. I just hope the public go for it, though I'm not convinced many younger people will want to attend a few days prior to Christmas this year.
How much warning can be expected? I thought it all went up to the wire with the results of the Science and Omnicrom was an unknown quantity. DH's school knew about school closures in March 2020 literally only a day ahead because one of the parents was a member of COBRA. Boris probably doesn't even know himself what is about to occur.

Now, the government is once again relying almost entirely on vaccines, and failing to put in place or fully enforce other measures to stop or slow the spread of the virus

He doesn't dare do anything else which the 'freedom' loons in his party would kick against and which might remind us that the government partied last December while the country followed the rules.

And still nothing in place to protect children in schools.

What sort of emergency is this where our future generations are abandoned to the virus?

My daughter tried to book her booster online last night and was held in a queue with 800 before her. She will try again today. Hopefully, things will move forward quickly.

I’ve just found out that my Local Health Board knew nothing about this until it was broadcast yesterday evening. Here’s their Facebook post.

‘Along with the rest of the country, we are hearing tonight’s announcement from the Prime Minister at the same time as you. We will update you through our channels as soon as we know more about what tonight‘s announcement means for Wales and for our vaccination programme here in Powys.

In the meantime, if you have received your invitation letter please do attend the appointment we have offered you. This is your quickest opportunity to have your booster.’

Is it really possible to double the number of vaccinations given per day ? Even if it is achievable, I worry about the amount of extra abuse the system and managers will heap onto NHS staff in the pursuit of this goal. I can imagine staff being asked to work endless extra hours for free, all days off and all leave being cancelled, all this over and above the insane demands that are on staff already. I’m also concerned as someone with a long awaited hospital appointment on the 23rd that it will be cancelled. The NHS is overwhelmed with enormous waiting lists , for many reasons, many of which the tory government is either partly or wholly to blame for:
1) lack of funding for the last decade in NHS (totally failing to keep up with the demands of an ageing population) and massive cuts in Social Care
2) failure to train enough staff
3) Brexit - exacerbating the already massive staff shortages
4) repeated failures to deal with covid properly, leading to the NHS being overwhelmed twice, resulting in an enormous backlog of patients needing treatment
Now, the government is once again relying almost entirely on vaccines, and failing to put in place or fully enforce other measures to stop or slow the spread of the virus, and there is quite a big risk that the NHS will be overwhelmed again in January - the NHS is already on its knees.

People aged 30 and over will be able to book an appointment for their life-saving COVID-19 booster jab from tomorrow (Monday 13 December) as the NHS vaccine programme extends once again.

The national booking system will open to everyone aged 30 to 39 so that they can arrange a top-up three months on from their second dose.

With around 7.5 million people aged 30 to 39 – of which 3.5 million are eligible from tomorrow – the change following updated advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation means that millions more people will be able to book their booster.

And if Boris hadn’t mentioned helping the other nations he would have been criticised casdon. I don’t think he was patronising at all.

My stepfather said this afternoon he’s not hiding away. ‘I’m in my 90th year, I’m jabbed and I’ve had my booster. I want to be with my family and friends whilst I’m able. Being shut away on my own was terrible last year. It plays on your mind. We’re not meant to live that way. No more for me thank you”.

I don’t blame him to be honest.

I’m a law abiding sort of person, I’m clinically vulnerable, have had all my vaccinations, avoided crowded places, washed hands, worn a mask, etc. etc.

But there is no way I will not be seeing my brothers and sister over Christmas, unless any of us catch Covid in the meantime. They are all vaccinated and boosted too and we have all followed mask wearing and social distancing rules. We have to start living again. I have hardly left the house for 2 years except for medical appointments.

It’s the right thing to do, but it annoyed me when he patronised the other nations by saying the UK Government will help them. Dream on Boris, Wales and Scotland are already ahead of England with the booster programme, and it’s already been announced that all over 18s in Wales will have their appointments. What does he think he can do to help?

I also think it’s a massive ask of the NHS, and I will be cross if people moan about not getting other appointments which have to be postponed to achieve this level of vaccines - you can’t have the penny and the bun unfortunately.
