No doubt AR has achieved much, given her start in life and lack of formal education, but she now operates in a different world.
I would advise her to keep the passion but moderate the language and polish-up the grammar, because whether we like it or not these things matter.
She's in danger of becoming a female John Prescott and it won't end well.

Uncouth Angela Rayner doing Labour no favours
(519 Posts)Well I'm from a working class background but please Angela Rayner having a go at Raab did herself and Labour no favours.
JanetJudge being a northener I also have what some (in my opinion, narrow minded) people would describe as an undesirable accent. But, there is no problem with my diction and definitely no problem with my projection, so why would anyone in the same circumstances need elocution lessons? I rather like regional accents, and I think it is sad that some people would suggest that those accents should be lost in order for people to succeed in parliament.
I have the weirdest of accents btw. I love accents, but like everyone, some my ears enjoy, others not. Some of my favourite relatives have a very clipped South African accent I don't like, but it does not stop me loving them.
Totally irrespective of AR's personality or worth, her voice grates with me- but I don't judge her for it. And I have to say I would have not used the word 'sc*m' and certainly not at Conference. But I do admire her for what she has achieved, in very difficult circumstances.
I don't think anyone needs elocution lessons
Riverwalk To repeat , my reply was to Curlywhirly about how to improve a voice by elocution lessons, not Mrs. Rayner's voice.
You then said: "You may not like her accent or choice of words but she has no problem with communication."
to which I replied:
"Mrs. Rayner's problem with communication is that she has a poor understanding of appropriate language".
This definitely impedes communication and the latter part of her speech was certainly garbled with a very poor choice of words which offended a great many people and caused problems for her party leader, which may of course, have been her intention.
"Uncouth"
There's an older person "chiding" a younger one. I have to say it is good to hear someone not only speaking their mind but the truth.
I dislike the standard authoritarian speak from many women which you might call assertiveness. However, it is so "holier-than-thou" and "I know best" it overreaches that word. What AR said was blunt, obviously what she thought, and as far as I can see, the truth.

Well said.
Let’s hope that nobody throws an egg at her.?

Sorry JanetJudge my comment was agreeing with you in that, like you, have an undesirable accent, but was also in reply to easybee's comment regarding elocution lessons.
We cannot get any worse than a bunch of scum, homophobic, racist, mysoginistic, absolute pile …of banana republic…Etonian…piece of scum.
Not blunt. Dangerous accusations to make.
.
Jane Judge, I am sorry but I do not properly understand your post.
If this is what happened to you during covid then I am truly sorry, but feel it is not appropriate to discuss it in connection with Angela Rayner.

Well, to be fair, some of the comments she made are correct - Boris, at least, has shown himself to be homophobic, racist and misogynistic. And he is an Etonian.
Please explain how you think they aren't some of those things
Homophobic - Nadine Dorries does not agree with gay marriage and believes all her constituency feel the same - culture post
Racist - BJ says Muslim women in niqab are like letterboxes
Misogynistic - most operations and services cancelled on the NHS affect women, most benefit and pension changes affect women and see above ^
Banana republic - Test and trace, PPE in containers not ready for use, no pandemic planning
Etonian - most of them were educated at Eton, most are male and have received such privilege of wealth and education
Are they using is wisely? only in their favour in my opinion.

Fair enough but I'm sure you can understand the depth of feeling.
How refreshing to hear a politician saying exactly what they think. I don’t care what thei voice sounds like or what accent they have.
It’s a good thing to have some plain speaking for a change. I wish more of our politicians would have the guts to speak up.
I’d rather have this than the mealy mouthed words of J R Mogg or the blusterings of Boris any day!
some plain speaking for a change
that use of language is something I expect to see when I'm watching 'My nightmare Neighbour Next Door' on channel5
Rayner’s rant shows that the Labour Party only wants to appeal to its more extreme elements (Momentum) and is not interested in learning from its latest electoral defeat - that it needs to attract much wider public support if it is to get back to power.
Actually, I loathe Tony Blair because of his EU fanaticism and constitutional vandalism, but one thing he did do in 1994-7 is turn the party into a tightly disciplined highly electable winning machine. He realised the British public don’t do socialism per se, and that the previous 15 years of Labour trying to persuade them to become socialist had failed, so instead of expecting them to come to the party, he took the party to them.
That’s what this Labour Party need to do, but they won’t, because they hate Britain and it’s people, for rejecting its wokery and its beloved EU.
I don't really think of Angela as woke at all

Which of the accusations is dangerous?
Actually Prescott was a really important part of New Labour, anyone who doesnt understand that, doesn't really understand what Blair was doing or why he won.
Blair boxed Prescott (2 Jags) off. He was the union dinosaur of his Cabinet.
She is Starmer's stand-in. She is Starmer/Biden's Kamala Harris.
But Rayner is money in the bank; votes in the ballot box for the Conservatives. Her rant was just to curry favour with the Party faithful at their Conference.
Keir Starmer says ‘he will deal with her later’. Ooh, bet she’s quaking in those Doc Marten boots (love them actually!). She has chutzpah in spades. Last time he took her to task, she ended up with more titles and responsibilities!
Urmstongran -That’s what this Labour Party need to do, but they won’t, because they hate Britain and it’s people, for rejecting its wokery and its beloved EU.
They don’t hate Britain! What a strange thing to say!
However, I do agree with you about Blair. He was rather like Boris in many ways. All charm, a man of the people and totally unscrupulous.
I prefer politicians that speak their mind. Thatcher and May are excellent examples of those with principles. Not mine but preferable to those who say what people want to hear.
There is far too much dishonesty in politics. No wonder so many people are disenchanted and fail to vote.
I probably didn’t express myself well ayse. Sorry. I meant they hate Britain because we don’t subscribe to their wokery (Keir Starmer’s views on who has a cervix for instance: clue .. it’s not just women. Gah!) and the fact that Labour love the EU yet the Referendum five years ago showed most of us don’t!
