Lilibet Diana Mountbatten- Windsor, born on Friday.
Good choice of names! tcrsmile ?

No tributes to the mum's side of the family in the naming either. i think Doria is a nice name.
Just feels a bit forced to me after all they have said.
At least the children will have Doria as a physical grandparent sad when families fall out.

Oh goodness, I'm not sure. In view of what's been happening over the months I rather felt it appeared like a skit somehow.
To echo the use of PP's pet name for the Queen was one thing but to then name a child with what was a pet name doesn't sound right.

Why not Diana Elizabeth and be done with ? Which is lovely.

Oh the fawning. After causing the Queen and Prince Philip so much misery for so long. Talk about maximum publicity.

I can imagine why they chose the name but I have resolved not to be bitchy

?

I would have added Philippa too.

The baby has the Mountbatten surname.

Philippa is Catherine's sister's name.
Philippa Charlotte Middleton (Pippa)

Congratulations to the family, lovely sentiment in the name Liliebet Diana.

A new baby brings joy into any family.

Puzzler61 Sun 06-Jun-21 19:30:38

(No offence to anyone with daughters or granddaughters named Courtney or Britney!)

NotTooOld Sun 06-Jun-21 19:30:37

Agree with Fanny. The choice of Lilibet is wrong on all sorts of levels. However, as with any young couple having a new baby, I wish them well.

Puzzler61 Sun 06-Jun-21 19:29:54

I like the names. I feel the Queen will have given the couple her blessing to use her childhood name Lilibet, and shortening it to Lili is what most of us would do. . Not at all surprised that Diana is the baby’s 2nd name - very fitting.
We would have criticised them if the had chosen Hollywood names like Courtney or Britney ......

It’s not an uncommon name in the US though apparently, 16,276 babies called Lilibet were born in 2020 there.

Gosh, how interesting!

It is a very pretty name.

theworriedwell Sun 06-Jun-21 19:28:22

GS just contacted me to ask if I knew the new royal baby had copied my plants name.

If I was 95 and lets face it most of the people who had called me a nickname had passed away I think knowing my name was going to live on in a new baby would make me very happy.
A thoughtful gesture from a caring GS and his wife.

It might be nice to use her nickname and it might very well make the Queen happy but I'm not sure how caring a GS and his wife are when they said the things they did when his grandfather was dying.

Surely we can accept that people do good and bad things and don't have to pretend?

I was silently horrified when my son and his wife used my second name, ( and my mother's first name) as a middle name for their daughter . I think it was a kind gesture but it's a name I just can't stand. My mother, who had become very vocal with dementia, would have told them right out that it's a bloody awful name and what were they thinking. She died before the baby was born so we managed to avoid an outburst.

Someone mentioned upthread that there will be a few more Lilibets being born and that's very true. Happens a lot these days. However there were only 2 Lilibets born between 1900 and 1988 in England and Wales. People would have been aware of the nickname but didn't copy it.

Oh such a nice thread too makes such a welcome change
Makes me happy to read the positivity

What happy news, a healthy daughter and mother doing well.

Sweet names smile

lavenderzen Sun 06-Jun-21 19:03:39

How lovely. I wish them all well.

BlueSky Sun 06-Jun-21 19:03:31

How lovely Lilibet, I’m sure Harry mentioned it to his Gran beforehand. Diana had the be of course. Tragic she’s not here to enjoy her grandchildren.

Antonia Sun 06-Jun-21 18:58:58

Very pretty names, and I wish them well.

Lillie Sun 06-Jun-21 18:50:00

I like it of course it is my name.

Washerwoman Sun 06-Jun-21 18:44:06

I can only imagine as it's such a deeply personal name that Harry has talked to his grandma and said that's the name they would like to choose.
Yes it is a compliment but I have to admit I did a double take seeing it initially and it seems a little bittersweet given how difficult the last few months must have been whilst her husband was ill and Harry has been do vocal about his family and perceived slights and failings .Lili is however a very pretty name and pleased as always to hear of a healthy newborn
