Lilibet Diana Mountbatten- Windsor, born on Friday.
Good choice of names! tcrsmile ?

Gransooz Sun 06-Jun-21 22:04:26

So we have Charlotte Elizabeth Diana Mountbatten Windsor and her little cousin Lilibet Diana Mountbatten Windsor. The names are lovely but quite similar. However I suppose one is Princess Charlotte and the other is Lili. Quite different! They are cousins but I wonder if they’ll really ever get to know each other. It’s a happy time but quite a sad situation.

You are right Calli I would have added Doria as well. So Lilibet Diana Doria Philippa Mountbatten Windsor.

A healthy baby girl, beautiful names. I like the tradition of family names being used. My children abd their children continued the tradition

Harris27 Sun 06-Jun-21 21:44:11

Different but lovely.

Birdwatcher4 Sun 06-Jun-21 21:42:07

Aveline yes they are , going a bit off the topic I always cringe when they call Cathrine - Kate as William always refers to her as Cathrine! which is such a lovely name.

Aveline Sun 06-Jun-21 21:34:45

Birdwatcher- proper sensible names.

Kalu Sun 06-Jun-21 21:33:46

What a lovely choice of names and happy to hear Lilibet Diana was safely delivered.

Birdwatcher4 Sun 06-Jun-21 21:33:24

William and Catherine’s daughter is named Charlotte Elizabeth Diana Mountbatten Windsor .

Just saying .

Lollin Sun 06-Jun-21 21:27:18

Having lost a baby I imagine they are feeling very blessed with a little sister for Archie. Delightful choices.

Aveline Sun 06-Jun-21 21:15:36

They don't need her consent. Wonder why they didn't just call the baby 'Granny' or 'HRH'. Just as daft.

DillytheGardener Sun 06-Jun-21 21:12:57

I’m not a much of a royal fan anymore but I would love to see what the new arrival looks like. I’m guessing she will be very pretty and hopefully inherit The Princess of Wales and her mother’s good looks. The name I think is a little odd but it’s America and they do things differently there. I’m sure the queen gave her consent to this, I can’t imagine they would have done so other wise.

M0nica Sun 06-Jun-21 21:01:45

Blubelle my reaction would be much the same for anyone who was semi estranged from their family and then started using, not family names, but family dimunitives or nicknames in naming a child. It appears ingratiating, as if those involved thought it would curry favour.

They may have sought and received the Queen's consent. In which case that is fine.

I have nothing against them, except their public behaviour, which they must know will be commented on it. If you make a show of parading your noble and virtuous motivations in public. You must expect your behaviour to be judged by the standards you parade. So far I am not impressed.

BlueBelle

nottooold how on earth do you know that the queen wasn’t flattered and overjoyed

I cannot understand all these downturned mouth comments
Some people just suck any joy out of even a babies name for goodness sake If they have called it Chardonnay or Blamonge or Marmite or something I d understand but that young couple can’t do anything right ever

Maybe HM was, maybe she wasn't.

Isn't it the same when any baby is born? Some will love a name, others not so much. I don't love all of my grandchildren's names but I've got used to them.

Blamonge? now there's a name...... confused

Aveline Sun 06-Jun-21 20:57:25

By all means give that baby a pet name but it's not appropriate to give her someone else's pet name. Crass. Their PR team probably thought that would smooth everything over nicely. Yes I'm obviously bitchy but I think this name is a smarmy nonsense.

Blimey.....what a load of cynics there are about!!!

Urmstongran Sun 06-Jun-21 20:45:59

I’m sure this baby girl will wear her names with pride. A joyous time for the family. Congratulations on her safe arrival.

M0nica Sun 06-Jun-21 20:44:41

I hoped they asked the Queen whether she wanted her family dimunitive used as a name for their daughter.

I understand the Diana, but feel the first name is both presumptuous and ingratiating. Why not just make her name officially Lilli, otherwise a diminitive of a dimunitive? Now that is rather silly.

sodapop Sun 06-Jun-21 20:35:53

I like the names as well Lili Diana sound good. I'm not a fan of this couple but I wish them well with their new daughter. If they are trying to build bridges then surely that's a good thing.

theworriedwell Sun 06-Jun-21 20:32:14

The Queen was never going to say anything negative, she has too much class to go to the media and wash her families dirty linen in public. She might be thrilled, she might be rather sad that she is unlikely to see much of Lili or she might feel after 4 children, 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and a 12th on the way that she's not particularly bothered.

EllanVannin Sun 06-Jun-21 20:30:16

Well I suppose it's one way of worming your way back into the fold where attention will always be on the Royal Family and not the USA.

Greeneyedgirl Sun 06-Jun-21 20:28:40

I think it’s odd to give a baby a pet name, but it’s what they have chosen, presumably for personal reasons, and I wish them all well.

The Queenhasshared her joy following the birth of Prince Harry and Meghan's baby daughter.

A statement released by Buckingham Palace on behalf of the monarch and the senior royals read: "The Queen, The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall, and The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have been informed and are delighted with the news of the birth of a daughter for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex."

Difficult to read anything into that one. It sounds like something prepared in advance with no mention of the name.

Callistemon Sun 06-Jun-21 20:18:24

Doria is a lovely name.

Amazing how the change or transposition of a letter can turn a name from one which is old-fashioned to one sounding pretty and rather modern.
Doris - Doria
