Lilibet Diana Mountbatten- Windsor, born on Friday.
Good choice of names! tcrsmile ?

Aveline

You are wrong Cleo Panda. People aren't objecting to the inappropriate name for this poor child because they want to spoil a pleasant thread but because they believe this self serving couple are attention seeking again. As usual.

"poor child"? Eh?

And Aveline you know what is in the head of those "people"? Must be a miserable place, in those heads.

I'm sticking with who I believe to be attention seeking here. There is another thread, go on there, or head to the Daily Mail comments, bet that is a seething cesspit today.

It's a lovely name and the families are reportedly happy. Repeating the oft used over the last 15 months - Be Kind. It hurts no-one.

No! Really! I thought that it was a joke!
I'm really not being nasty, but blimey
It's all shades of wrong. I can't believe it

I absolutely agree. Lilibet the was the Queens pet name and Meghan is taking the pxxx naming the child Lilibet

Don't you think Harry had anything to do with it?

What am I saying? She keeps him locked in a cupboard, doesn't she?

Anniebach Mon 07-Jun-21 17:24:35

But they threw his daddy and his granny under a bus

Oh ye canna throw your granny aff (Under) a bus
Oh ye canna throw your granny aff (Under) a bus
Oh ye canna throw your granny cos she's your daddy's mammy,
Oh ye canna throw your granny aff (Under) a bus

My brain has been softened by the unending trail of bile.

Maybe they could have called her Senga. Nice name, no connotations.

MaggsMcG Mon 07-Jun-21 17:14:00

I bet originally it was going to be the other way around.
I like it. Its nice to have a family name. Apparently the Queen is OK with it.

Jennyluck Mon 07-Jun-21 17:06:56

It’s a lovely name, really unusual. But this couple have spent the last few months trashing the royal family. So the cynic in me wonders why they’ve chosen the queens nickname.

merlotgran Mon 07-Jun-21 17:05:06

Lilyflower

It is a charming name but having thrown granny under a bus, a bit of a cheek to appropriate it.

grin

Precisely

I agree with Fanny.
Lilibet is a childhood mispronunciation. Cute while she is little but what about when she is grown up. Ok, you can call her Lili, but she is still saddled with the babyish name.

Jabberwok Mon 07-Jun-21 15:57:15

Alioop. ???. It's one thing to speak out , but to deliberately trash your own family and lie on a regular world wide basis and not to expect an adverse reaction would be naive in the extreme. I am puzzled as to why you would want to call a child after a person you clearly despise and have criticized, and her whole family? Weird or what!

LondonMzFitz Mon 07-Jun-21 15:49:51

Thumbs up to CleoPanda & others who have made the choice to keep this a happy and polite thread. Isn't it lovely to have a cheerful chat!

*I'm ignoring those who, knowing there is another thread more to their taste, simply have to post their bile here - I figure it's attention seeking and I'm not playing their game.

Alioop Mon 07-Jun-21 15:37:02

The wife of a friend of mine gets muddled at times. Her friend arrived this morning and she said about the royal baby arriving and they had called her Lillaput.

cupcake1 Mon 07-Jun-21 15:14:43

It’s not about the baby or names per se although I realise that is the premise of the thread but H&M again attention seeking and causing speculation as to why Lilibet was chosen when they have both trashed the Queen and the royal family for all the world to see and hear. For a couple who bang on about their privacy it’s farcical Do as I say not as I do springs to mind.

Ladyleftfieldlover Mon 07-Jun-21 15:04:35

Whatever names they had chosen would have attracted the ire of a certain sort of person and the tabloid press. Whatever they do or don’t do they are accused of being self serving or attention seeking. I don’t believe that for a minute. True, they made some mistakes at the beginning of their marriage but they were doing well and were popular wherever they went. But the tabloids and a certain type of person couldn’t accept that. They would have been brilliant. Near enough the throne to have an influence, but far enough away to be more outspoken than William and Catherine. I am not surprised that H and M have spoken out.

Jabberwok Mon 07-Jun-21 15:01:25

Lili is a lovely name, and as baby is to be known as Lili, why call her Lilibet.? You're right Aveline, some people will wonder!!

CleoPanda Mon 07-Jun-21 14:59:33

@ Aveline. I think you are wrong. This was started as a pleasant, congratulatory thread. It then deteriorated into an opinion fest.
There was already a bitching thread for the opinionated.
My point is, why can’t some threads remain cheerful and positive. Why are they always hijacked?

AJKW Mon 07-Jun-21 14:53:58

Even if I’m not a fan of H&M, they have chosen a beautiful name for their little girl.

Aveline Mon 07-Jun-21 14:50:51

CleoPanda Mon 07-Jun-21 14:44:19

My point was that people love to spoil a pleasant thread by being unpleasant. Try and prove me wrong if you’ve got a week with nothing to do.

maddyone Mon 07-Jun-21 14:30:38

Those who say we don’t know them, or it’s none of our business, or posters are nasty, and shouldn’t be commenting, I would say, sorry, but posters can comment if they want to, and they don’t have to check that anyone on here thinks their comment is acceptable. It’s called free speech. Other posters are free to disagree if they want to.
The simple fact is that Harry and Meghan have put themselves out there, and the consequence of that is that people will judge what say or do. And because they’ve put themselves out there, people are free to comment in whatever way they like.

With regard to myself, I think they’ve made a choice to give the baby a name which will link her forever to the royal family. I think that was intended because they need the royal family connections to keep on doing what they are doing. Without the royal family they would have nothing to sell.

The name Lili is lovely, and Diana is hardly a surprise. It’s the name Lilibet that has caused the comments, for very good reasons. It may be a popular name in America, but it is not here in Britain, yet. No doubt it will be soon.

Jabberwok Mon 07-Jun-21 14:30:07

Why indeed Annie? I can hazard a guess, well two actually, but 'I really couldn't comment '.

Anniebach Mon 07-Jun-21 14:21:10

Why name a child after a woman who is head of a family who
are racist, refused Meg help when she was suicidal, kept her
shut in her house for months , whose parenting skills leave much to be desired, who didn’t support Haz when his mother died, who didn’t ask Meg if she was ok - allegedly.

EllanVannin Mon 07-Jun-21 14:03:33

We already had a Lilly and an Archie in the family so there {grin]

georgia101 Mon 07-Jun-21 14:03:32

I think they should have stuck to Lily, then people would have recognised the nod to the Queen without taking offense at the use of a very private nickname. I am disgusted with their use of this name after all their horrendous accusations against Harry's family. I feel they've taken something special away from the Queen.
