Aveline

Just read that the Queen was not informed that her personal pet name had been appropriated by those two.
Either a cynical ploy/revenge or just plain insensitive.

Where did you read that by the way ?

25Avalon Wed 09-Jun-21 08:29:36

It’s got them more publicity again!

CafeAuLait Wed 09-Jun-21 08:25:02

I don't see why Lilibet can't be a first name. There are a lot of creative and interesting names around these days. I don't mind it, though wouldn't choose it. Lily is fine as a day to day name.

I did think the name felt a bit odd considering other recent events, when I heard it. Otherwise I don't think I'd have given it a second thought. Diana didn't surprise me at all. I expected that would be likely.

I think it's generally a sweet name and hope the queen feels okay about it.

Uh oh! Seems like they didn't check with granny afterall before using Lilibet. That will throw the cat amongst the pigeons.....

mamma66 I feel for your Mother to lose a baby and a family member to use that name soon after is awful.

Callistemon Tue 08-Jun-21 17:37:52

Lil and Archie, sounds like a couple of characters in East Enders. Probably running the Queen Vic.

Get with it, Aspen ?
Only the best children are called Lily and Archie these days!

Wasn't Bet a landlady in Corrie, though?

Aspen Tue 08-Jun-21 17:32:19

Finding this thread hilarious.

No, only some of us are allowed to express an opinion.

25Avalon Tue 08-Jun-21 09:01:10

Perhaps they just liked the name Lili, Lily or Lilly, and thought they would extend it to Lilibet to be nice to the Queen, to earn brownie points, to get more publicity or whatever. Who knows? The variations of Lili are quite popular at the moment as was Archie - glad they didn’t give him the full name of Archibald!!

silverlining48 Tue 08-Jun-21 08:39:39

For what it’s worth I think Lilibet is a bit silly as a proper name, fine as a childhood/pet name, and the combination of that with Diana just doesn’t flow. I assume Lili will be used which is much nicer.
Just another opinion, not that it matters much in the great scheme of things. They like the names, and I wish them all well, as I do every one of us.

I thought H was "Harry Wales" when he was in the army.

Mountbatten-Windsor is his surname as it is for the family.

That's a lot for a little child to write on their exercise books!
Does George call himself George Cambridge at school? Always best to be near the start if the alphabet when the teacher is handing out the pencils. By the time you get to Windsor there's only the broken ones left!

I'm surprised they didn't add Philippa as a third name as a nod to Prince Philip too.

Is the Mountbatten bit for him? I’m no royal expert…

I hope it goes a little way to softening and helping to heal the family rift as sometimes a new baby in the family can (even if it just starts the process). I think Harry loves his family but it was unfortunate how his intentions for freedom to live his and his own families life caused hurt for his extended family. All I could think of is thank goodness my family is not in the press because they could have a field day with our ups and downs and upsets!

vegansrock Tue 08-Jun-21 05:43:04

anniebach it is a bitchfest when it’s constant negative speculation , or rather constant negative assertions , about people you don’t know’ s thoughts and motivations. You cannot extrapolate from one thing to another -“ they called the baby x because ..” You don’t know their reasons or whether the queen is miffed, thrilled or not bothered .

Mamma66 Tue 08-Jun-21 04:54:43

Whilst we can theorise, suspect or debate the motivation of the naming of the baby, there is one thing that I do know for sure. The key will be ‘if’ the Queen knew and was in agreement with the name choice. I wouldn’t like to venture a guess on that one.

My twin brother died in infancy. Two years after his death my Aunt and Uncle used the same name for their son. They never forewarned my parents and whilst my Mother never said a thing to them, nor did she ever forgive them. My point being that we can only speculate, but it’s all down, IMHO, as to whether the Queen knew and approved, or not.

Time will probably tell…

“ Either H and M are trying to reclaim some kudos by toadying or trying to stir things up further.”

No other possible option?

Torbroud has said that Meghan’s scared she’ll lose her title. Lucca asks how she knows, did she tell her.

Lucca you are simply trying to be provocative to the poster. You know as well as the rest of us that Torbroud is expressing her opinion. There’s absolutely no need to be so aggressive.

Hardly aggressive for goodness sake ! Torbroud made a statement claiming to know somebody’s thoughts and I queried it.

*Canadian gran* it's not 'honouring' the Queen to give a baby the Queen's private pet name. It's breathtaking cheek.

I thought we were all allowed to have our own opinions?

Blossoming Mon 07-Jun-21 23:13:17

Good grief!
