Liz Truss on Andrew Marr
It is clear from what she refused to answer that donors were slipping money into the PMs back pocket.
None of it was declared to the Electoral Commission.
If this is found to be true then Johnson knowingly broke the law.
We can’t possibly continue with a PM who continually and knowingly breaks the law.
Parliament must do its job and investigate.

Mr Johnson and Mr Cummings
(745 Posts)Demonic has suggested that Mr Johnson has been not entirely honest about his communications with James Dyson.
I recognise many people believe Mr J was ‘doing his best for the country in a pandemic’ when he offered to sort the tax for Mr Dyson. But, do we want ethical government or not?
I think Johnson and Cummings are two sides of the same coin. Neither of them care about anyone but themselves and consider that their actions are above any censure from the great unwashed. Johnson thinks he can spend public money and run the country as his own fiefdom, bypassing parliament and getting jobs for the boys. Cummings thinks he's cleverer than any of us and that makes him better than us so he can do with he likes and there will be no comeback.
And this is what the country voted for. The populace may not be stupid but they certainly didn't think through the consequences of their actions. They believed the press when they told them that Johnson was just what the country needed.
Somebody upthread said we need an ethical government but sometimes you just have to do what's right for the country. Ethics trumps everything, I think.

I watched Liz Truss on Andrew Marr, where you watching a different programme?
She repeatedly said that Boris Johnson paid the excess Over and above the allowance that all new PM’s get to refurbish the flat himself, and details will be published!
They did vote for Johnson but not for Cummings.
I do remember threads a while ago saying that unelected Cummings was running the country.
No one is saying he did - but he was clearly giving a Tory Brexiter favourable treatment
Boris will have had Dyson on speed dial. He was probably panicking by then. Covid was rearing it’s fearsome head. What best to do? Contact any and all if you hope they have the expertise and the infrastructure to deliver. Makes sense to me.
I heard that too GG13!
Sp *were instead of where.
You're right Call, I meant to add a sentence saying that although nobody voted for Cummings per se, we knew that they came as a double act. Or maybe there were some who didn't and that's why there was so much surprise when Cummings was so prominent.
As usual the people who hate Boris and the Tories and predicting the end is near. Meanwhile back in the real world no one cares. Another Westminster MSM storm in a tea cup.
Do people really think Tory voters are so fickle that something like this will throw them into the arms of Labour / Libs / Green?

But you missed the point.
An unknown donor/donors originally paid the excess, but after it was made known and eyebrows were raised, Johnson said he would pay it himself and repay the donations - surprisingly as he had previously said that he had no money to pay for it.
Johnson should have declared the donation to the Electoral Commission.
He didn’t thereby breaking the law.
Urmstongran, & GrannyGravy13, I echo all you've said, couldn't have written it better myself.
Thanks for your informed input.

^You’re just infantilising him^
So you're telling me he's a grownup then, suziewoozie?
Interesting.
Nice point - but he is PM and no one should be excusing his behaviour as if he were a child ( although he is)
Boris has realised that he has probably 5 years as PM-he'd probably worked this out way before he was elected, he's not the absolute idiot he appears-and in that time he needs to make as many influential friends as he can, line his pockets with as much cash as he can, and make sure there's a place somewhere for him when he's finished.
He's folowing in the great traditions of Blair and Cameron.
Whitewavemark2 I have not missed any point, thank you.
“Westminster insiders are mystified why Mr Johnson chose to pick this fight with someone who could cause him so much political damage"
They needn't be, and they need look no further than Boris’ fiancée. Those kind of people never give up until they have totally destroyed their adversaries. She won round one by getting Cummings out of No.10. She is going to lose the rest of the rounds and take Boris down with her if he’s not careful.

Do you really want a leader who panicks?
Who was it who said that Johnson always wanted to be PM; and to have been PM; but not the bit in the middle?
I reckon that he will resign soon, especially with the vaccination stuff going so well.
It's the best chance of going out on a high that he will get.
Meanwhile back in the real world no one cares.
And that's why we've ended up in this mess.
I would hope that voters would vote for the candidate and party who they think are offering the best policies for the country's situation at the time. I've voted for just about everybody in my time - yes, including Tory, before they lost the plot. Tory, right or wrong, is no better than Labour, right or wrong or anything else, so changing your vote is not fickle, it's common sense when your chosen party are shown to be lying, devious charlatans.
According to today’s Times Cummings has evidence to prove that Johnson is responsible for the UK’s catastrophic covid death rate. I’m absolutely sure that Johnson is on his way out. Even so he’ll still get a huge pension and will have police protection for life. Neither of which he deserves.

Good to hear, I thought you had.
Johnson has spent his entire life running from responsibility, this is just another instance, but one with a real sting as since becoming PM he has broken the law beginning with the illegal prorogation to failure to declare gifts to contemplating tax fraud.
Eventually he will answer, and I hope it will be in court.
I like my governments to have integrity and a moral compass.m
Depends upon your constituency. FPTP can mean casting your vote elsewhere is a waste of a vote. Maybe spoiling the ballot paper though - that might be an option...

Like Blair?
Oh look, a squirrel.

Well it gets better and better - it’s acceptable to have a PM who’s fiancée is actually determining the future of the country? ??????It’ll all be her fault - talk about infantalising him -,’Wahhhh mummeee a mean girl did it, not meeeee wahhhh’
