I believe you pin your colours to a mast, GG13. It's a naval expression dating from the days when in a ship to ship battle hauling down your 'colours' (i.e the national flag flying at the mast head) indicated surrender to the enemy. If you nailed your colours to the mast you could not give any indication of surrendering. As it indicates a fight to the death it might well be an appropriate metaphor in this instance.
The interesting bit will be to see just how influential the Daily Mail actually is. It is running a very hostile front page today. Will your claims of people not caring be vindicated or will the DM's influence prevail?
I'm sure that Murdoch is pinning his hopes on it prevailing. He has been pretty influential by way of his media possessions over the past few decades. He's got the Sunday Times on the job, too.

Mr Johnson and Mr Cummings
(745 Posts)Demonic has suggested that Mr Johnson has been not entirely honest about his communications with James Dyson.
I recognise many people believe Mr J was ‘doing his best for the country in a pandemic’ when he offered to sort the tax for Mr Dyson. But, do we want ethical government or not?
Aleg ? You missed out ‘Mother Of God!’
It's diversionary tactics, isn't it?
Is there an email going around? Trying to just focus on how silly we all are for believing Cummings.
Where's Ted Hastings when you need him....

Johnson is not my ‘hero’ nor GG13’s ....perish the thought!?
What does amuse us are the posters willing to believe every word that Cummings comes out with, when a year ago he was talked about on GN as some sort of devil ( Demonic) and branded a liar of the first order.Come on....you have to admit it’s pretty funny.
We shall see. There are apparently witnesses prepared to go public about Johnson’s alleged comments regarding “bodies piling high”
PippaZ please do not assume that Mr.Johnson is everyone on the rights hero, it’s just not true.
I am sick of posting the same thing over and over, if Mr.Johnson the PM of the U.K. is found guilty of any illegalities by an enquiry or court I will support the verdict and ensuing consequences.
At the moment everything is alleged and whataboutery.
I’m still convinced that Johnson knew about the football super league but his knowledge of football and his understanding of working class British people meant that he really had no comprehension of how angry people would be. Either that or he let it happen so he could step in to prevent it and make himself a hero.
Rather like this tweet.
“I have an idea for this year’s John Lewis Christmas advert.
‘Carrie Symonds wouldn’t like my sofa.’”
When considering the statements of two liars one has to weigh up the evidence. Cummings was so completely blatantly lying las t year over his trip to Durham that no-one with half a brain could think otherwise.
In this instance, we have witnesses who have verified that Johnson did, indeed, make the piling bodies remark. Peston announced on ITV last night that he had two witnesses, neither of which is Cummings, who are prepared to testify under oath to having heard it.
Of course, in this day and age perjury seems to be regarded more as an amusing failing than as a serious misdemeanor, but I'm sure there are a few people around who still have a moral compass.
The BBC and the Guardian both claim to have bona fide witnesses (not Cummings) too. This is rather a U turn for the BBC which has, until now, been cheerleader for the government...
Mr.Peston’s witnesses were not in the room at the time, he confirmed this on GMB this morning his words they are ear witnesses
Mr.Gove was in the room for the meeting and has categorically said Mr.Johnson did not say those words...
I have to say that I'm surprised that anyone is surprised at all this. Surely we all know what Boris is like?

Oh, by all means, let's worry about the traffic UG. Maybe put it on the to-do list after "address serious concerns about party leader's suitability for office."

Firstly, Mr Gove has shown in the past that his understanding of truth is at times unorthodox.
Secondly, I read that it was not said during the meeting, but afterwards and people it said from outside the room where the meeting took place.
Johnson has form for this kind of utterance, so it would be in character. Remember what he said about corpses in Libya?
In any case, it's a distraction from the more important issues of cronyism.
Is this Mr Gove whose wife works for the Daily Mail? So why on earth did he not advise his wife to stop her newspaper printing a blatant lie? C’mon, if anything he’d be the one to make sure other people said that Johnson said it so that he, being the person assuming himself to be Johnson’s successor could act all squeaky clean whilst, at the same time bringing Johnson down.

No, it isn't. It has, for example, been shown that about £10 billion of contracts for Covid-related items or services were handed to personal friends without going through tendering processes.
There is an ongoing investigation into the money paid for the redecoration of his flat and evidence so far shows that he has almost certainly broken the code for politicians, if not committed fraud. I expect he'll find some way of wriggling out of both accusations.
I have absolutely no time for anybody who defends somebody who is so amoral, even if not illegal.
This is not tittle tattle.

Sorry?
So you can only hear something with any accuracy if you can 'see' the person or thing that you are hearing?
That must make an awful lot of telephone conversations totally invalid...

Saying he is your hero is no different to your implication that some have changed their view on Cummings. Isn't it interesting just how cross you get when the tables are turned?
Neither of these add anything to the argument but, as you seem to have found, they are annoying distractions. But then that is why you are using false assumptions isn't it - just to distract from the hole Johnson is digging for himself.

Hypothetically, of course, because he doesn't want to be seen as the person blatantly being part of a plot to bring Johnson down.
Gove - always the bridesmaid etc ????
I haven't changed my view of Cummings one little bit. He's a dishonourable rat. Johnson was a fool to rely on him. Nevertheless, Cummings is a skilled political player and knows how to win votes. For example, his support for the north and an earlier lockdown would have won the popular vote. Cummings doesn't care personally about the people in the north or those who died as a result of delaying lockdown - it's a game to be won. He was never loyal to Johnson. His priority always was to win the game.
Just noticed that I missed out a word from my previous post.
It should be "people heard it said from outside the room".
He must have said it very loudly and clearly then which for BJ is pretty impressive
I think he was shouting. Imagine. Johnson in a temper and shouting, who'd believe it?

I wouldn't be surprised if a few expletives have been deleted from his alleged statement...
And yet, talking of sleaze, isn’t the Labour mayor of Liverpool about to start a court case for actual corruption?
Not as newsworthy for some reason!
