I admit to shedding a few tears of relief and joy when I read the good news. But I certainly don't think the new administration have an easy time ahead of them. The USA is anything but united, as can be seen by how many Americans voted for DT, despite (or indeed because of) his behaviour over the last four years. I admit I fear for how die-hard Trump devotees will react to his losing. Hopefully, the Republican party will get it's act together and accept that they have a great deal to be ashamed of over the last four years and will no longer support the man. I wonder, also, if the younger Trumps will try for power in 2024?

Biden is President elect
(316 Posts)and the world breathes a massive sigh of relief - wow <3
Trump will have to face the hundreds of millions of dollars in debt which come due for repayment over the next few years. He's going to have a lot to deal with.
'Oh dear, how sad, never mind! '
The weapons carried by some of the Trump Supporters in Philadelphia are really scary. It will be a very difficult time for the USA, so sad.
Like rosecarmel, I shed tears of relief. I've no tolerance for bullies and IMO Trump is an unhinged bully. It's deeply disturbing how many people not only turned a blind eye to his foul behavior but mimicked it. This election to me is good winning over evil. Character matters.

I understand he is potentially in a lot of trouble regarding financial misdemeanours?
It has been pointed out that, Trump could step down to be replaced by Pence, who in turn at the end the presidential term could pardon Tump, as Ford did for Nixon.
Sorry. pardon Trump
Regarding Biden’s speech patterns, he battled a severe stutter as a child and this gives the impression of slowness.
He said that as a child ‘His brain was working faster than he could get the words out”
Having worked with someone with a debilitating stutter, I admire this achievement.
Not sure if a 77 year old woman would be given the job though...

Well done, you got yourselves a President with probable onset dementia. If you think Trump was a clown, you ain't seen nothing yet. 'Where's the button? What button, I've got zips!
At least he can string a sentence together and talk in a calm manner without abusing someone, making some outlandish claim or feathering his own ego..

^Mélanie may well be on her own hot line, to her divorce lawyer(s).^
I think you're right, Kalu but I hope the Trumps don't use her son as leverage and that she will get custody.
Barron is 15 next March so will have his own views on who he wants to live with. I believe he spends most of his time with his grandparents in Maryland and Melania is there a lot too, Apparently they all converse in Melania’s mother tongue.
Not sure if it’s wishful thinking or you’re just going along with the knocking group lemongrove but listening to Bidens speech he shows no sign of having dementia he spoke clearly and strongly don’t you think the dementia label has been lobbed around to make a case against him
He gave a good and strong speech trying to uplift the crowds and talking greatly about healing divides I think he made an inspiring speech I ve no idea what sort of man he is in private life or what dirt will be thrown at him but it was a delightful relief to have a man who can sound normal and caring about his country more than he cares about his fame
His Vice President is a woman who sounds intelligent and strong and so fair and clear minded
It is such a breath of fresh air and fingers crossed we could have something similar happen in this poor divided country
It is said we always follow American trends !
Couldnt agree with you more quizqueen!
Well said Bluebelle!
Biden has now a 5 million lead and millions of people are celebrating in the streets.
Something big just happened in the USA.
It is the rejection of division and hate.
The rejection of racism and misogyny
The re-embrace of values of decency and fairness.
The Statue of Liberty can stand tall.
I like Kamala Harris too, she will be a very strong Vice President. Trump can now have criminal charges brought against him as he will not have diplomatic immunity and he has those huge personal debts to pay back. Climate change agreements back on track. Thank goodness Joe Biden won.
It's hardly a clear win for Biden, or a rejection of the Trump presidency. Despite all that has gone on over the last 4 years, in the middle of a pandemic, Trump has actually increased his popular vote from 2016. Staggering. Biden has won but there's a lot of Americans who were happy with Trump as a president. Or maybe they were not happy with the alternative?
5million More in the popular vote and there is more to come.n
306 to 232
Seems pretty decisive to me
Joe Biden comes across as a kind caring man , he has had a lot of sadness in his early family life , He is not a narcisstic egomaniac like DT, I think he will make a good President,
What on earth did Melania see in Trump when she married him. !!! ? $$$$$

I think that’s exactly it.... they weren’t happy with the alternative. If they had been, then Biden would have won by a landslide.
Bluebelle it’s as far from wishful thinking on my part as you can actually get (knocking Biden) I am delighted that Trump is out but worried about an old man with memory problems
Being in such a highly important situation. I hope he will be up to the job because it’s a tiring full on one, with lots of travelling involved as well.
For now, it’s just euphoric that there is a normal human being in the White House ( or almost in) but after that, well it’s a case of hoping that he is well propped up.
5 million is a tiny percentage when looking at the figures as a whole. A whisker off of half of the voters wanted Trump to remain. I find that the most incredible fact about the US voters.
lemon as you have been saying for the past 5 years.
Let’s wait and see, if your naivety of believing a lie that Biden is senile put out by the Trump camp comes to fruition
For myself I prefer to embrace the moment.
I usually prefer the ‘wait and see’ approach because it’s the more sensible one.
I don’t think Biden is senile... but he does have a lot of memory problems and has made many gaffes over the last year during rallies/speeches.He’s too old for the job, they both are! Yes, he can read off a speech, but I hope he will be up to the actual nuts and bolts of the job. There has been four years there of a terrible President and I don’t think Biden will be terrible, but he could be an almost absent one. That’s the worry.
My God! So many people celebrating the death of Democracy from a hugely corrupt election, the UK will be next. Welcome to Communism!

What evidence have you got that he will be absent? Has he been absent over the past 4 years.
If you have no evidence why say such things? Maybe it is your bias against a politician that is the antithesis of the sort of populist nationalistic politics that you support?

Even though not living in America, I feel that it's a huge relief. Who knows what trouble that horrible man would have caused over 4 more years? I reckon there'll be some issues between now and January but in the end he'll be gone. Biden will certainly inherit a broken country though, I feel rather sorry for him. I wonder if Trump will have to actually be dragged kicking and screaming from the White House?
